They threatened to cancel my order within 72 hours if I did not confirm my address, even though I used a confirmed Paypal account. I had to respond during normal business hours, you know, while I was working. Then they had me on the phone tree for more than 15 minutes waiting for the next available customer service rep. It is not worth the hassle to deal with B&N. Go someplace else if you can.
I say DO NOT buy from B&N on the web. It is terrible. The customer service is non-existent, the prices are way higher than Amazon (even if you buy B&N's $25.00 "member card", you can still get everything cheaper on Amazon). I have horror stories of returns I tried to make and they were "never received by the warehouse" even though I have Priority Mail delivery confirmations to prove they did arrive. I had to call my credit card company, dispute it all, then after many months, my credit card company even gave up on them and issued me a refund on their own because it just wasn't worth dealing with them. I always tell my friends and family now: DO NOT BUY ME GIFT CERTIFICATES TO BARNES & NOBLE. The store itself is great, but you can STILL get cheaper books, movies, EVERYTHING from Amazon.
The LAST place I will buy a book in the future is B&N! by feralone,May 03 '07
Sent the WRONG book not once but TWICE! I was told the second time that I could return the book to the B&N store near my house. What a joke! The customer service Reps were RUDE, totally disinterested in my situation and seemed particularly irritated that I was "bothering" them with a problem that B&N.com had created. They let me know right away that they have no connection with B&N.com. When I first approached the customer service desk an employee was walking away from the desk and I asked if she worked in customer service, she seemed particularly irritated and said rudely, Yes! But I'm helping another customer! I have never been treated so rudely and dismissed so quickly by people who are suppose to be "helping" the customer! The only time I will buy from them in the future is if I am dying and I need a book that only they sell to save my life!

Barnes & Noble.com is a wonderful store mostly because they have made it easy and pleasant to shop for books. Many times finding a book is laborious but in a good environment it actually is fun and you find yourself looking for more than what you came in for. More than that you always end up finding a great deal.
