Don't buy large appliances from Amazon just to save a few bucks.
by aking8,Apr 10 '04
My microwave arrived damaged - it had a dent in the metal above the door. I requested a return and a refund from Amazon through the website. I repacked this heavy box, which took almost an hour to do, dragged it outside to the front porch. The next day, UPS didn't pick it up. They left a note that the pickup ticket they got was for an item under one pound! Although I have emailed Amazon.com now four times to tell them this is a 65 pound microwave, they continue to order UPS pickups for a package under one pound. I still have had no luck getting them to pick this up! Amazon.com won't give me credit on my credit card until they get the microwave back, however, they won't order the pickup correctly. So this microwave sits on the front porch in the box, and if Amazon never orders the pickup correctly, it will never get picked up. This stress of having to deal with incompetency at Amazon.com is not worth the $50 bucks I was saving. Believe me - go to Sears or someplace where you can actually pickup your large item.

Bangalore bookseller/GEMONEY callcenter says "NO TV FOR YOU!"
by flyjetguy,Sep 30 '08
Shopping for a Samsung LN52a650 on amazon I was attracted by 24 month interest free financing.
Applied and approved immediately, no credit limit was provided and no account number was emailed.
Purchased the TV for @2200 using the new amazon.com (GEMONEY) account. One hour later received email to review payment method.
After speaking with amazon cust svc., received 866-634-8379 number for my GEMONEY account. I told her I didn't know what my limit was, just that there seemed to be a problem with the payment method. She told me my limit was $1800 so I wasn't eligible for the interest free financing.
I asked if I could try to increase my limit $400 to purchase the TV? The agent encouraged me to log in to my GEMONEY account to increase my credit limit. Unfortunately my account number was required to log in and would not be provided for 3 days, when the interest free financing was no longer available!
Cancelled my $2200 order, cancelled my GEMONEY amazon.com account. What a circus.

Great place to buy used CDs or books - cheap!!!!
by clhend,Jul 14 '05
I recently purchased 3 used CDs from different sellers. The delivery speed was awesome. Because Amazon sets the shipping price, I have never felt that the shipping price was being jacked up to cover a low sale price.
The prices were excellent! Not one CD cost more than 70 cents. I had received a gift certificate for $10. With that I was able to order 3 CDs and pay for everything, including shipping, with the gift certificate.
Amazon provides excellent customer service both to their sellers and buyers. As a buyer the communication from Amazon is rapid and informative, without being intrusive.

Encyclopedic catalog of web merchandise
by jt4649,Feb 11 '05
Amazon is now the "Sears Big Book" of online retail, and I've enjoyed many satisfactory experiences with them. I first thought their venture into tools & hardware would fail, but their use of promotions (shipping & pricing) makes them an attractive alternative. Sometimes the descriptions of their "non-core" merchandise is lacking, but a little research usually fills in the voids.
When a recent software return failed to refund my credit card, they quickly found the error, even paying my shipping costs. That being said, I generally avoid their returns process because of the "feature" giving them full control over shipping. Since I use single-use credit card numbers for all online shopping, I prefer their control over the transaction to be limited.
Any large online retailer, security aware or not, is hacker bait. Storing a credit card number in any database for longer than necessary is stupid and invites theft.

Faithful Amazon Shopper
by allbutme24,Sep 15 '06
To begin with I was quite sceptical about buying things over the Internet, then I found Amazon. I have made multiple orders for things such as books, clothes and electronics and I have not been let down yet. Every time I either receive my order on time or before the delivery date they supplied me with, never late. If there are any complications or confusion, customer service is always there for you and will answer all you questions. Also, the quality is always as it is advertised, which can be uncommon in today's world.

Amazon.com saying "Free Shipping" doesn't mean it's free!
by ilsaggio,Aug 07 '06
Free shipping is not always free! I was in the process of ordering a product that was presented online by Amazon.com as including free shipping. When I went to check out I found a $10 shipping charge added to the price of the product. I opened the link that tells me why I wasn't eligible for free shipping and learned that I wasn't buying the product from Amazon.com after all, I was buying it from another company that does charge for shipping. Now, the product in question was listed as being sold by Amazon.com with free shipping, but is actually sold by another company that charges for shipping. Am I missing something here? Is this false advertising? It certainly is misleading the consumer, something Amazon.com seems to do very well. Be careful - I don't trust their posted prices or when Amazon.com says "Free Shipping." It's probably a ploy to lure you into purchasing the product at an increased cost. I canceled my order and will not order from Amazon.com in the future.

Wonderful Customer Service
by specialk1975,Dec 28 '04
I ordered a NY Giants T-Shirt through one of Amazon's merchants, FansEdge. While my experience with FansEdge was poor, my experience with Amazon was wonderful.
Since mid November, I'd been fighting FansEdge over the t-shirt I'd ordered. They sent one that was too large with damaged lettering. I returned it mid-November but by mid-December, there was still no replacement shirt or contact from the company concerning a refund.
I finally filed a claim with Amazon. It is now the 27th and I have already received my refund through them. I am very pleased with my experience with Amazon in this matter and will definitely recommend them to my friends and family in the future.

Pricing not consistent with prices shown on Shopping.com Beware!
by matism,Jul 03 '05
In Shopping.com, Gameboy Advance shows for $79.95 with no tax and free shipping for Zip Code 32927 from Amazon.com. However, when you go to Amazon and buy the item, it's $79.99 + tax + shipping from CompUSA. Total is $90.49. No satisfaction from merchant ("CompUSA is under license with the government with what is called "Nexus" in every state, even states that we don't have a store in.") nor from Amazon ("Also note that Amazon.com is not affiliated with Shopping.com, and
cannot guarantee that pricing shown on that web site is correct.") Heckuva way to do business!

Great, speedy, the best place for books online!
by flaran,Nov 22 '05
My book from Amazon was supposed to be of "Average" quality. When I received it in what I saw as near-perfect condition I was overjoyed. All that I saw were a few frayed corners. They delivered it promptly, but not much earlier than they estimated; they were exactly on time. I think that Amazon is the best place to buy books on the internet.

I will do my shopping elsewhere!!!!!!
by bgallese,Oct 07 '06
Ordered a Delta table saw which Amazon cancelled saying the price was incorrect. I lost my $35 coupon which they will not return to me even after several emails to their pathetic customer service. You can't talk to a human via phone as everyone hides behind a keyboard.

The first time good, the last time terrible.
by shopping7,Jul 01 '05
On time delivery? What a joke!At the time of purchase, my item was promised to deliver in 7 to 10 days. It took FIVE WEEKS to get the product. Amazon may have the best inventory, and good prices, but they do not have my business.

A good place to buy and sell but definitely needs some improvements
by bibliofiend,Feb 10 '05
This review actually reflects my experiences with Amazon.ca, where I am a seller. Amazon has provided sellers such as myself with an excellent venue for selling used books, but unfortunately there are some drawbacks.
1) The fees applied to non-Pro Merchants are prohibitive.
2) A flat shipping credit doesn't work in Canada. $6.25 minus fees doesn't leave much left over. In order to ensure that I won't lose money on most orders, the minimum I can sell at is $11.00. Which makes me uncompetitive as many U.S. sellers can list for much less.
3) Problems with the database. In some cases I've had to do some searching before I could find the book that I want to list. You figure that if you do a search for the exact title, that it will be the first to be listed. Not always the case.
If Amazon.ca could rectify these issues, it would be an even better place for buyer and seller alike.
