You won't often catch me in a package deal vacation; actually only once in my life, down to Cancun and we weren't very cooperative with the 'program' there either. It's so much more interesting, although not necessarily always fun, to do what the locals do, take the back roads, visit the non-chain hotels and eateries and yes, CAMP! The key to enjoying this sort of adventure travel is to set expectations on 'adequate' because you're usually pleasantly surprised. But, it's not for the prissy or faint of heart because the price for being out in the real world is occasional discomfort such as howling coyotes and hooting owls all night long on the edge of Hell's Half Acre (yes it's a real place) or longanizas of unknown origin at the Quintana Roo state line bus station in the dark of night on a very empty stomach. Anyway, I grew up roaming all over Colorado as my father likes to explore. I continued that with the first hubby, with a road trip to Disneyland thrown in for fun. My new hubby has been dragged from coast to coast: Cancun, Cape Cod, Boston, Lakes Region (NH), Maine woods, Great Sand Dunes, Yellowstone and surrounds, Cayo Costa (FL), La Jolla and San Diego beaches (all of them), Royal Gorge, Central Colorado woods, western and south central Wyoming, Chico Hot Springs (MT), Flaming Gorge, Capulin...hahaha Love it, love him.
