Jefferson Landing, one of the few remaining 19th-century river-front landings on the Missouri River, was a busy center of commerce in Jefferson City during the mid-1800s. Steamboats traveling between St. Louis and Kansas City often docked in front of the Lohman Building, which now houses a visitor center and museum. The nearby Union Hotel contains an adjunct gallery of the Missouri State Museum. The State Capitol, just west of the landing, sits atop a bluff overlooking the Missouri River. The magnificent white-limestone structure contains the legislative chambers, numerous works of art, and the Missouri State Museum. Tours of the Capitol are available free of charge.

Directions: In Jefferson City at Jefferson and Water Streets, and in the Missouri State Capitol. |
