All tracks have been digitally remastered. This is part of Buddha Records' Original Masters series. The irrepressibly euphoric sing-out-loud original 1964 version of "Downtown" opens the album, and you're in for a real treat if this is the extent of your Petula Clark knowledge. Here are 50 songs from the '60s and '70s that focus on her English-language releases on the Pye label. As an encore, "Downtown" is reprised as a 1999 remix of the 1988 acid-house hit version. Containing her two UK Number-Ones, the Patsy Cline-like "Sailor" and the rousing Neapolitan serenade "This Is My Song," this anthology has too many highlights to mention individually. For the uninitiated, attention should be drawn to particular gems. Her celebrated work with Tony Hatch and Jackie Trent is well represented here: "You Are the One" is a fantastically uplifting love song with strings and punctuating drums and there's a heartfelt version of the Beatles' "We Can Work It Out."
