Pros: Occasional funny sequences, Willard Cons: Wasted Carrell, too much Ron Burgundy
I wish things were different. I wish I could go back to the blasé innocence of just those few days past. But alas, I can't. I'm stuck with this uncomfortable reality that will eat away at my very soul. For the truth is....my love for Will Ferrell ...
Pros: lots of funny scenes, classic Will Farrell Cons: some jokes don't work, sexist over-tones
Fresh off his break-through film roles as Buddy in the film Elf, and Frank in Old School, Will Ferrell returned for Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Of course Ferrell is lead character Ron Burgundy, the top-rated newsman of a San Diego news ...
I wasn't expecting much from Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, but since I am a big Will Ferrell fan, I figured it couldn't hurt to give it a whirl. I'm certainly glad I did because I spent nearly the entire movie laughing at the goofy characters ...
Pros: Cameos, humor. Cons: "Shaun of the Dead" was funnier.

Pros: Some funny one liners, Christina Applegate Cons: Terrible Plot, Boring at Times
I recently rented this movie from Blockbuster, and the employee who rang me up told me this movie was "hit or miss." He explained that many of the customers either loved it or hated it, and I felt a bit nervous that I would not like it. Surely enough I ...
Pros: Celebrity drop-ins Cons: I sat through a whole hour of it.
Willy used to be good on SNL, until he started doing those cheerleading skits. I think from that point on, I lost interest in the show. Is it just me, or are comedies these days starting to suck? I'll be the first to admit that I don't see half the ...
Pros: Great delivery of very, very funny (if low brow) comedic material. Cons: Unexpected gore left a sour taste in my mouth.
A new Rat Pack is forming in Hollywood. It's a group made up misfits, class-clowns, fellas who have had to struggle for every wisp of popularity that comes their way. They're a funny bunch, to be sure, and each carries his own secret trick. Ben Stiller ...
Pros: Will Ferrell is absolutely hilarious, and there are some great cameos. Cons: Very tedious, and with a painfully unfunny first act. Massively hit-and-miss.
During his tenure on Saturday Night Live, there was no funnier cast member than the wild-eyed, goofy, and strangely lovable Will Ferrell. Most often playing the strangest character on the show in the funniest skit on the show, Will Ferrell won over loyal ...
Pros: The first half of the movie. Cons: ...the second half.
The plot style of Anchorman is reminiscent of the A Scary Movie series, in both of which the plot is, at best, limping along, wheezing for breath in order to accommodate off-the-wall comedy and a surprising amount of unnecessary gore. SPOILER WARNING ...
Pros: Ferrell, satire, one-liners, sight gags. Cons: Steve Carrell just a wee bit annoying.
Sometimes, we need to take a break from our humdrum lives and watch a movie that is pure fun. This is why Anchorman was made. It is silliness, absurdness, ridiculousness, and humor all tied into one, which makes for a great time. The plot is simple. ...
Pros: One of the year's funniest films. Will Ferrell has finally found his vehicle. Cons: While ahead of it's time, the humor will not embraced by all audiences.
"There was a time before cable, a time when people believed everything they heard on TV. This was an age when only men were allowed to read the news. It was an age when the local anchorman reigned supreme. In San Diego one man was more man then the rest. ...
The Anchorman strikes again by Kidnykid,Jul 16 '04
Pros: Bill Kurtis voiceover narration, Will Ferrell Cons: Some portions may be offensive to viewers
Will Ferrell portrays anchorman Ron Burgundy, at a time when men ruled the roost in the newsroom. Along comes female reporter Veronica Corningstone, eager to become an anchorwoman herself. The usual group of hijinks ensue, to the hilarity of the audience with whom I saw this film.
Believe it or not, Ferrell was not the best thing in this film to me. The voiceover narration, provided by Bill Kurtis of American Justice fame, was something of an inside joke for those of us old enough to remember when Kurtis himself was a Chicago anchorman.
Some portions of this film, particularly at the beginning, may be offensive. After all, during the time period in which this movie is set, people were just getting used to the idea of women doing some of the same things men do in the workplace. I also found some of the sexual content somewhat offensive. However, these are relatively minor quibbles, in my opinion.
This movie would be best for those who like their comedy frank, and are not easily offended.
Pros: Christina Applegate's performance, and Will Ferrell's to a lesser degree. Wardrobe appears to be authentic. Cons: Most of the perforamces from supporting cast. Not enough good laughs.
"Ron Burgundy" (Will Ferrell) is the most popular news anchorman in 1970s San Diego, despite being an immature bafoon. His career is jeopardized when the station hires an attractive female reporter (Christina Applegate) who wants to be the first female anchorperson.
This movie is not as funny as the TV promos lead you to believe. Although it does have some funny moments, but not enough to make it a good comedy. The comedy bits that do make you laugh will make you giggle, but nothing more.
The cast itself is fair, but are one-dementional for the most part. The best defined are those played by Applegate and Ferrell.
The performances, for the most part aren't that good as a whole -- with exception to Applegate, and Ferrell. In my opinion, Applegate was the best of the performers in this movie.
The wardrobe was dead on. Even the hairstyles were perfect. You had a sense that you were in the seventies.
Sadly, there was way too many problems with this film. There were a lot of problems in performances and jokes. If you see this in your local video rental shop, don't pick it up.
I usually love Will Farrell's comedy, but this wasn't that funny. I sat there waiting for something to come up that was just so hysterical that I would start laughing, but it never came. It was okay funny, but not hysterically funny. The plot sucked and there wasn't much else to it. The only thing that had me laugh, at all, was Steve Carell. He is going to be the next up-and-coming funny man.
The greatest of all skits by scarolinafan,Dec 20 '05
Pros: hilarious writing and random, absurd, catch phrases Cons: The plot doesn't play a large part in the movie.
Let me just say that if all you care about in a movie is its clever plot and witty coincidences, then you might not like this. If you are a fan of Will Ferrell's work on SNL then you should like this because basically it is just a huge skit and a way for Will Ferrell to throw in his random hilarious comments and absurd catch phrases into a movie. Steve Carell is very good, but is a total prick now, and thinks he is the greatest thing since pastrami on rye. So, I will only say that he is very good and has some funny, but Will Ferrell is the one who wrote those lines. The thing I hate is how people wished they could have just seen more 70's references, but what they don't realize is that Will Ferrell only uses these 70's themes in a unique way so that you don't even realize he is doing it.
