Great American Western Movies: Tombstone

by Ed.Williamson, Jan 30 '07
Pros: A fine Western which expands the tradition of Western movies.
Cons: The story is almost too big and ambitious for the portrayal.
Tombstone (1993) is one of the greatest American Western movies ever to come out of Hollywood. I place it in the top ten Westerns of all time. It may be my favorite Western film. Tombstone the movie, starring Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, ...

Tombstone, Val Kilmer Steals the Show of the OK Corral Expanded. Own This DVD!!.

by popsrocks, Dec 06 '07
Pros: Memorable lines and well formed relationships
Cons: Nothing worth noting
I added Tombstone to my collection of iPod Movies a couple of months ago. I never saw it on the big screen and I suppose that was my loss. Though I have yet to appreciate the full open shots of the wild west it was the acting and storyline that ...

You Ain't No Daisy Atall: Tombstone

by George_Chabot, Jun 28 '00
Pros: Russell, Kilmer, Boothe, Biehn, sound, screenplay
Cons: editing, sets
"I'm your huckleberry." Doc Holliday Tombstone (1993) Every since I was a boy, the legend of the Earps vs. The Clantons and the Gunfight at OK Corral on October 26, 1881, has been one of my favorite stories. In fact, I even had a facsimile ...

The Wild West is Alive in Tombstone

by Rocketgirl, Oct 29 '00
Pros: Great action, great acting
Cons: Ending is a little anti-climactic
I have long been a fan of Kurt Russell, from his days as an actor for Disney. I figured he couldn't help but make this a good movie. And it was a good movie. Though Val Kilmer nearly stole the show!

There were two movies that came out in...

This movie is a daisy.

by countessa, Jul 08 '02
Pros: Outstanding cast.
Cons: I need more Doc Holliday, and less of everyone else... then again, I'm biased.
Loved the cast, loved the plot, loved the costumes, loved it all. This movie is the definition of brilliant. The ultimate western of westerns. After seeing it for the first time, I felt like like writing a letter to everyone involved with the movie,...

Tombstone

by goose22, Apr 18 '07
Pros: It is well played and there is great chemistry between the lead actors.
Cons: it could be a little more accurate as far as history goes.
I have always been a fan of the old American West and the men that made it great. I can remember growing up hearing stories of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Wild Bill Hickock, and countless legends that shaped the west, you probably can too. ...

May drag a bit, but still good

by the_mow, Jan 14 '08
Pros: Cast, the "Old West" feel of sets and wardrobes
Cons: Forgettable soundtrack, supporting characters under developed, somewhat graphic violence, drags a bit
This is the story of members of one of the greatest gunfights in US history, the OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona. The film focuses on "Wyatt Earp" (Kurt Russell), who reunites with his brothers "Virgil" (Sam Elliot, who seems to favor doing Westerns when ...

Saddle Up!

by ecn71270, Jan 26 '02
Pros: Acting; western cinematography; sets
Cons: May not be completely accurate to the actual story--but this is a minor quibble
The story of legendary Kansas lawman Wyatt Earp and his good friend Doc Holliday has been the subject of countless books, TV shows and, not surprisingly, movies. Three of the best known examples were John Ford's 1946 film MY DARLING CLEMENTINE (with...

Why, Ike, WhatEVAH Do You Meeean?

by TRISMEGISTOS, Jun 15 '00
Pros: No problem sitting through it.
Cons: Too many "stirring" tracking shots with background orchestra...Yawn...
OK...we ALL know that, in dealing with the Western genre, chances are you're going to get mythology, no matter if it is a movie or a book that is being created. The period known as the "old West" was such a different set of perameters for so...

Loosely Historical, But Tight Entertainment

by moonmoods_52, Dec 02 '99
Pros: entertaining script, great directing, excellent acting
Cons: many historical inaccuracies
As much as I love this movie, I am here to say that "Tombstone" (1993) is great entertainment but poor history. I saw this movie before I read up on it and saw a documentary on the History Channel about Wyatt Earp. These two sources cured me...

What Do You Want On Your Tombstone?

by coolboarder, Feb 16 '01
Pros: Sam Elliot, Val Kilmer and a wonderful modern adaptation of an old legend
Cons: Not particularly well shot, some unconvincing acting
Tombstone belongs on a long list of the "modern westerns." This movie also bears the distinction of competing with another movie about Earp and the boys, Wyatt Earp, starring Kevin Costner. Both tell the same story, but in different ways.

"Tell them I'm coming! And hell's coming with me!"

by JackFoley, Nov 28 '00
Pros: Val Kilmer, dialogue, action, heart, Kurt Russell
Cons: Over-the-top moments from all, but they add to the charm
If there is one genre of film that is 100% American, it is the Western. It was the first popular movie genre, and the source of our first movie stars. John Wayne is obvious, but it seems that every classic actor has a western classic on his resume...

A day in the West

by misman, May 16 '01
Pros: Val Kilmer, Kurt Russell, and story itslef
Cons: VERY VIOLENT
Tombstone is a movie of what transpired in Tombstone, Arizona in the late 1800's. This is where the batter at the O.K. Coral took place that made a few law-men and outlaws famous at the same instant. Kurt Russell plays the famous Whyatt Earp, and Val...
