Pros: Great effects, John Barry's score, a fun family flick. Cons: Unwieldly ending, hammed up acting, overly cutesy robots.
It was inevitable that the success of 1976’s Star Wars would ensure a steady diet of Sci-Fi thrillers for years to come. Indeed, when asked how he felt about this, George Lucas once commented words to the effect that that was a good thing, because ...
Pros: Some great effects, matte paintings, good cast, interesting plot... Cons: A lot of "swears" for a Disney flick, pacing, high body count
I was six the first time I saw "The Black Hole," Disney's 1979 science fiction movie about a big sucking whirlpool in space. I only remembered it a few days ago when my own six year old was talking nonstop about black holes and was wondering what it ...
Pros: Special effects notable for the time, decent story Cons: Poorly executed and dreadfully boring
Introduction: This Disney sci-fi film approaches so-bad-it's-funny territory. This was so painful to watch that it's amazing that I actually managed to sit through the whole thing. Plot Overview: The plot is jumbled and crazy, and ...
Pros: Good direction, good performances, great robots. Cons: Some poor visual effects, LOTS of cheese.
If you were to sit me down and hand a copy of The Black Hole to me saying that not only will I like this Disney film from the late 70s but that I would also consider it one of the companys best live-action films, I would probably secretly ...
Pros: Great special effects and a good score Cons: Not the strongest of stories
There was a little movie you may have heard of that came out in the late seventies. I understand that it made quite a splash at the time. This obscure flick of which I speak is called Star Wars and apparently went on to make a little bit of money ...
Pros: Stunning visuals; great set design; atmosphere; eerie score; robots with more personality than the humans! Cons: Archetypal characters; so-so dialogue; an ending that tries too hard to be cerebral
I first saw The Black Hole when I was six years old, and it scared me half to death, especially that scene when Anthony Perkins took the faceplate off of one of the humanoids in the control tower of the Cygnus. Needless to say, this movie has ...
Pros: The DVD is a flawless copy of the film. Cons: The DVD was not produced in the anamorphic widescreen format, thus reducing available resolution.
This was one of the things I'd always been waiting for. The Black Hole on DVD! I'd had an old pan-and-scan copy of this movie on VHS for some time now, but that copy was rather lackluster, even when I'd just got it.
Pros: Interesting plot, great characters, rather nice visual presentation. Cons: The newer widescreen version is VERY wide! , I don't recommend it for children under age 14.
Originally released in 1979, This is one of my favorite Disney movies.
Yet I wouldn't suggest it for the family.
Nominated for two Academy Awards (Best Cinematography , Best Special Effects ), This movie definitely has the...
Pros: Great plot, acting and fx. Cons: May not be for the whole family, despite the Disney label.
Those of you old enough might recall that, in 1977, after the phenomenal success of Star Wars, sci-fi films were being cranked out faster than Jeff Foxworthy's "you might be a red neck" jokes. Need a memory refresher? Here are some titles you...
