Pros: An intelligent look at the "future." Cons: You may find things a little dated 31 years later.
I first saw the movie, "2001: A Space Odyssey" when it came out in the theaters when I was 13. It was a perfect age for a science-fiction fan to express wonder about the film, even if I didn't have that much of an idea about what was happening...
Pros: makes the movie comprehensible Cons: underdeveloped characters, overdeveloped descriptions. somewhat boring.
Although many people I know are all "oh!" and "ah!" over Stanley Kubrick's movie 2001, I've always been much more "huh?" and "what?" about it. Visually stunning as it may be, I never understood all that was happening. What was with the prehistoric people...
Pros: The book is easier to understand than the film, but is that a strength? Cons: Clarke completely fails to understand and explain transcendance.
2001: A space odyssey Clarke was keen to deny that the novel 2001: A space odyssey is a novelisation of the film 2001: A space odyssey, directed by Stanley Kubrick, film-script by A. C. Clarke and S. Kubrick, and certainly in the detail ...
Pros: good plot and an interesting story line, good ending Cons: boring most of the time, poor development of characters
I have not seen the movie based on this book, and therefore can only write about my impression of the book after reading it. There are several reviews which feature the movie as well, however this is not one of them.
Pros: A brief fictional history of human evolution, from apes to space-rockets. Cons: Doesn't fit thematically with the rest of the tetralogy.
2001:A Space Odyssey is one of the greatest Science-Fiction novels ever written. Or at least in my opinion. Originally, this story was a shorter piece entitled The Sentinel, Clarke collaborated with Stanley Kubrick to make the movie...
Pros: Excellent novelization of the screenplay Cons: Minor differences between the book and movie
"2001: A Space Odyssey" is the novel version of the story that was made into a movie of the same name. This story was written by Arthur C. Clarke based on the screenplay that was developed between Clarke and Stanley Kubrick. Perhaps this is...
Pros: Essential reading for the philosophically-inclined Cons: Can be dangerous if you suspend your critical-thinking faculties
This was my rather naive reaction after reading this book. Knowing that I was going to be hospitalized for two weeks or so for diagnostic testing (this was the mid-1970's before there was such a thing as an HMO or managed care to put pressure on...
Clarke developed 2001: A Space Odyssey on the basis of ideas which eventually belonged more to Stanley Kubrick, who directed and cooperated to the writing of the screenplay of masterwork-movie of the same name, than to himself. Clarke's priority was to...
This book occupies a unique place in the pantheon of science fiction. It can't be appreciated as a book alone. Arthur C. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick collaborated on 2001 as a joint screenplay/novel with the movie being released first. As such, both the...
Without giving too much away: This book begins by telling the story of how we evolved from simple primates into man. It moves into the year 2001 where a black monolith which is obviously artificial is discovered on the moon. The monolith is christianed...
