wrldtravler's Full Review: Curve by Liz Claiborne 4.2oz Cologne Spray for Men
I am a member of basenotes and now smell this which are blogs about cologne. I have worn colognes like Creed, which costs $200 a bottle, so I know a thing or two about cologne. What I can say about Curve is that you can get this for $19 at TJ Maxx and in my opinion, it has a scent that is unique, lasts long and gets attention. This is one of those colognes that doesn't come along often ... many of the cheaper scents do not last as long and all have pretty much the same smell. Curve will always turn heads ... I've never worn it and not had at least one girl come up to me so she could tell me it smelled good.
A 4.2 ounce bottle will last you a long time ... many more expensive colognes only have 3.4 ounces. I usually get a solid 4 months or more out of a bottle and usually wear it out 3-4 nights a week. I find that Curve does last a long time as well and that I can put some on at the begining of the evening and at the end, it smells just as good if not better now that it had time to react with my chemistry. It is very rare that a cologne will last 4 or 5 hours like that ... especially when that cologne is about 1/4 of the price of the colognes you'd buy with designer names at the mall cologne counter.
I have heard many different basenotes from many different places about Curve. Some say it contains Bergamont ... some say Ginger. What I smell is a peaty or mossy green kind of smell. I can detect a little bit of citrus ... maybe lemon or it could be bergamont orange. There may be some Vetiver.
While the individual notes are hard to pick out, I will say that this smells different on anyone who uses it. It is a very unique chameleon of a cologne that works with your body chemistry in order to produce the scent that works for you. I know this sounds a bit over the top, but honestly I have shared a bottle with 3 different guys at Mardi Gras and we all went out in a group and every one of us smelled noticeably different even though we all were wearing Curve.
The same is true for the dry down ... or the period about 20 minutes after the cologne is sprayed from the bottle and the alchohol evaporates off the skin leaving the scent. If you smell your clothes the next morning, it will have a much deeper smell than the cologne had on you as it reacted to your skin. I love the way my clothes smell the next morning, so I often spray t-shirts I will wear out a day or two in advance.
The cologne has a manly smell to it ... woodsy. But at the same time, there is a boyishness to it where you smell it and could see someone wearing it who was of college age. This isn't the type of cologne I'd expect to smell on a businessman. It is more of a going out scent. It is always described as 'sexy' by any girl I ask to smell it. It's not as abrasively masculine as some of the other colognes such as Old Spice. But it is not as feminine or sweet as some of the more expensive scents like Kenneth Cole Reaction or Dolce Gabanna.
The bottle is green glass with gold writing. It has a spray top and there is a little orange plastic stopper on the top of the bottle. My advice is to keep this topper on the bottle when you are not using it. It is like a little clip so the pump can't be pressed down. When you do not put this clip on, it will evaporate fast. I don't know why, but Curve seems to evaporate very quickly if it is exposed to air. When its in the bottle with the clip, it will last a long time.
Overall, I always make sure I have a bottle of Curve in my wardrobe. Which is not hard to do if you have a TJ Maxx, Marshalls, BJs Wholesale or even a Walmart or CVS near you. Even though it is very cheap, I would rate it in my top 10 colognes and if I was going to pick one cologne to wear to be certain to impress a date or a woman, Curve would be it. There are colognes that smell better, but this one is fairly universal in who it appeals to. I think a majority of women would think this was sexy regardless of the type of man they prefer.
The cologne can be strong, so I wouldn't use more than 2 - 4 squirts tops on the wrists or clothes. Any more and you will be able to pick this up for a far distance away. Surprisingly, I haven't smelled that many guys wearing it ... or if they were, it smelled totally different on them than it did on me. So its not overplayed like some of the cheaper colognes out there.
