Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.
Owning every single episode of Sex and The City has become even easier with the re-release of all the seasons on DVD. What they have also done, is started selling all of the seasons together in a Complete Series DVD set, which is basically the same set that they were selling back in 2005. This is definitely a product that can fulfill the wishes of any Sex and The City die-hard fan, and the set is presented in a pink (of course) velvet spiral binder. Within this binder, which is inside a nice clear case if you purchase that version (this one was not the one with the case, but instead shrink-wrapped), you find color pictures of the cast, scenes from the show captured in bright hues, and brief summaries of every episode of the show. After the summaries you find the DVDs within pockets of their own, split up by the 6 different seasons, and culminating in a total of 20 discs of Sex and The City. It might be a little bit of an overload for people that werent really into the show, but for those who called themselves fans, this is what I would deem the ultimate Sex and The City compilation.
For those that are new to the show, Sex and The City is of course the story of 4 women amidst the stressful dating scene within New York City. The primary star, and narrator to the show, is Sarah Jessica Parker in the role of Carrie Bradshaw. Carrie writes a sex column for a major New York newspaper, and through it tells the story of sex and dating within the city. Of course she draws from personal experience to find article topics, and through the article she also learns life lessons. Her three friends are played by Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones, Kristin Davis as Charlotte York, and Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes. All four are quite intelligent women, who are strong in the professional world, but have had issues with finding the perfect guy along the way. It of course leads to a lot of dating and talk of sex between the friends, as they all head down different roads trying to find "Mr. Right." The characters evolve through-out the 6 seasons of the show, and that leads right up to the movie that was released in May of 2008.
The show itself ran on HBO for 6 seasons, with the episodes airing between 1998 and 2004. They call it 6 seasons, but the fifth season was pretty short, and then the 6th season was split into two parts when it was aired. This led to two separate DVD releases for season 6, and though it upset quite a few fans, it turned out to be a genius marketing move, because it netted the franchise the equivalent of a 7th season on DVD. When the show ended in February of 2004 with the episode An American Girl in Paris, Part Deux, the show had completed 94 episodes, which by normal television standards is not very many for a show that was on the air for parts of 7 years. For an HBO show, this was quite a few episodes, and during the run, it depicted how each of the four characters went through many life-altering moments as well as child-birth, separations, weddings, and several different great actors that would play the beaus of lead actress Sarah Jessica Parker.
To be able to purchase a complete box set of DVDs for a television show, you would normally expect to pay a pretty hefty price, as you need to take into account that the most popular shows tend to sell around $39 to $49 per season, and if they are hot off the shelf, they can cost even more than that. Putting all the seasons together in one set is of course a way for the creators of the show to make more money, and the target is also fans who may have already bought a season or two along the way. That being said, if you can find this DVD set on sale, or for a great price online (something much less than $200 unless you dont mind spending that much) it is a DVD set well worth the purchase price to fans. It is also something that can serve as a great gift if you know someone who has either always been a fan of the show, or just started watching it on TNT or TBS in the past few months. Either way, the set will give fans of Sex and The City everything they could have wanted and more, and is worth the purchase price if you plan on watching the episodes more than once.
