msmorvay's Full Review: Dora the Explorer - Pirate Adventure
Plot Details: This opinion reveals everything about the movie's plot.
My 4 year old has started to realize that he likes certain shows. He has also fairly recently been introduced to DVD's know that he can watch his favorite character any time he likes has been very appealing to him. The very first DVD that he ever got just for himself was Dora The Explorer Pirate Adventure.
Dora Explorer Pirate Adventure
Dora the Explorer Pirate Adventure is a Dora feature movie. It has s special Pirate adventure movie, and there are also two additional bonus episodes that are episodes from the regular series. First off lets take a look at Dora's Pirate Adventure.
Pirate Adventure
Dora and her friends are about to perform in play, a Pirate Play to be specific. They are all happy and singing, but wait, where are the costumes? Well they are in the treasure chest of course, can you find all of the Pirate accessories in the treasure chest?
Sadly a ship full of Pirate Pigs are desperate to find their missing treasure chest, then they spot the costume treasure chest, and they sneak up and snatch it when no one is looking, so now the kids don't have any costumes for their play. They need to find the Pirate Pigs and get back the treasure chest full of costumes so they can get on with their play.
They will need the help of "The Map" to get to Treasure Island to retreive the chest.
While on their adventure they encounter a whale, a big fog, and a lighthouse who sings children's songs all wrong. You have to figure out what the wrong words of the song are and then sing the song right. If you help him do this he will open up the bridge for you.
The gang must get by some other potential dangers in order to get to the treasure chest and of course no Dora adventure would be complete without Swipper the fox trying to snatch something, but since this is a musical instead of saying "Oh Man" when he is foiled, he sings it instead (kind of funny).
Dora Saves the Prince
In the next episode Dora and Boots are reading a book about a prince who was locked in a tower by a witch because he kicked is ball in to her area of the forest. She locks him in the tower and the only way to get him out is to say the magic word to open the doors. Dora and Boots want to help the prince so they jump in to the book. Again they will need the help of the map to find the high tower.
When Dora and Boots get to crocodile lake they need to get across, but how. Dora decides that all she has to do is tell the crocodiles to open their mouth and then they can just jump across on their heads. Yeah that will work Dora. Of course it does work, but of course it would only work on this show. This part actually made me laugh.
So Dora and boots must work really hard to keep the prince safe from the wicked witch. Do they succeed? Do I really need to answer that question.
El Coqul
The third episode has Dora and Boots trying to help a little Cokey frog get back to his Island. He is unable to sing until he gets back to the other frogs in his family. They use the map to travel to the Island, and of course they need to Swiper from swipping something, but they don't really say what Swiper is going to swipe, but they get him to say, "Oh Man", and walk away.
They then need to get past a bush that is blocking the path. The bush seems to really enjoy mocking people, this bush is called an Echo Bush. They get the bush to open up his mouth and they crawl through him to other side. They will then to cross the ocean. They luck out when they run in to a boat driving parrot, who will take them to the Island. Of coure they stumble upon some obstacles along the way. But when they finally get to the Island they sing along with the frogs.
My Thoughts
This Dora DVD is a lot of fun. The first episode is very cute and has been turned in to a bit of a musical. This DVD like the Dora the Explorer show helps to teach children some frequently used Spanish words. The movie also helps to teach problem solving skills. A sing a long section on the DVD helps to teach song relation, and helps to develop auditory skills. There is even a little bit of counting to be learned in this DVD.
The main story is really cute, and the other two episodes are extremely cute as well. My son finds this DVD very entertaining and has watched it several time.
