Pros: Still funny after all these years
Cons: May not be fast-paced enough for modern-day viewers
The Bottom Line: This is a funny film as long as you take it in the context of when it was made.

| Kidnykid's Full Review: Young Frankenstein |
I personally agree that this is one of Brooks' best works. This sendup of the Frankenstein legend was filmed before the ZAZ comedy team started making a difference in how movie comedies were made, so this may bore some modern day viewers because it isn't fast-paced enough and may not contain enough visual jokes.
Those of us who remember seeing this film in the theaters, however, may enjoy seeing it again on a rainy Friday night. I think it would make especially good viewing during the Halloween season.
For me, the funniest joke was the running gag about the pronunciation of the name Frankenstein - the scientist making the monster consistently pronounced it Fronkensteen, as a way of differentiating himself from the guy who was in the original book. There was also the joke about Igor's moving hump - a faux pas of this sort is almost a prerequisite for a movie like this - and then, there was the "roll in the hay" sequence. And, of course, the monster itself has to do something unusual, and I'm not going to give that one away for the life of me.
Rent this film if you like Mel Brooks.
