Consumer Reports Magazine is a great source of information. We have faithfully subscribed to it for almost three years. I just received a renewal form in the mail and have decided against renewing. Why, you ask? Simple-epinions.com.
Don't get me wrong, I still LIKE Consumer Reports, we just don't really "need" it anymore because of epinions. The magazine is great for some of those who don't need a lot of information on a lot of topics at one time. I would get frustrated because some issues were of no interest to me, not to say they were not of interest to someone else though. Several things I really like about CR, is the fact there is NO advertising so you know the articles are unbiased for the most part. Also, I like the "recalled" section every month. I have found several products we own, including our minivan in this section. I will continue to look at this magazine at the library (for free) when I take my children for story time. I just can't fathom paying almost $30.00 for a magazine when I can find MOST of what I am looking for on epinions. Also, I can find things here when I want, not when Consumer Reports writes an article on it. Several products of interest to me (ie: baby products) are not featured very often in CR. This does not help me when I need to make a large purchase such as a car seat or stroller.
What I plan to do is cancel that subscription, BUT, be faithful when it comes to reading it. I just plan to do it for free at the library or even at their website. For the large portion of information I seek, I will be looking on epinions.com.
I apologize if you think this is a "plug" of epinions. It is to an extent, but my point here is about Consumer Reports magazine. They are an excellent magazine and I have never read any other like it. They are a wealth of information, I just don't need some of it. They have "experts" who test products. Well, I think the people here have just as much expertise as those testers at CR. So, if you subscribe, good for you. If you don't, maybe you should. Final point: Consumer Reports IS an excellent magazine, no doubt about it.
