Kidnykid's Full Review: Michael J. Harner - The Way of the Shaman
In this book, Michael Harner takes a Native American religious practice - the title, the way of the shaman - and popularizes it for the white man's tastes. One learns about practices such as the power animal and other things.
I would have to say that if you're not a New Ager, this is not going to float your boat. The only reason I read the book was for research purposes, to familiarize myself with what a lot of New Agers talk about when they mention the things written about in this book. Otherwise, if you're easily shocked, or perhaps don't want to take the risk of giving up cherished Christian beliefs (and in that respect, I can't blame you if you take this stand because I do too), don't read the book.
