jro26's Full Review: Patricia A. Pingry - The Story of America's Birthd...
This is a book that I did not think my little boy would get into. It was given to us as a gift when my son was about one and a half years old. It is the perfect size for carrying around in your diaper bag. It has 26 thick sturdy pages that will last through the toughest toddler tantrums.
This book uses only 200 words to convey the story of America's Birthday and how we celebrate it. Talking about the Declaration of Independence, Revolutionary War and how America became free. This book talks a little about picnics and fireworks, things that will help your child remember America's Birthday the next time you see fireworks or have a picnic. It definitely talks about many points in history without going into too much detail which is what kept my toddlers attention. He was able to pick up on the story very quickly. Many of the important key words are written in a larger colored text. My son loves that stop and let him fill in the blank. He had this book memorized by the time he was two years old and can finish any given sentence in the book. He asked me why the King of England put had taxes on the tea the colonists drank!
The illustrations are very nice and clean. The illustrations definitely do a good job putting the words into images to help get the points across.
This is a great book to start reading your baby whenever they are interested in books. I was reading to my youngest when he was only a few months old and he has turned into quite the book worm. It says Preschool is the top of the age limit probably because it is such a simple book that a 1st grader would be bored with it.
If you do like this book there are several just like it that help explain other holidays like Valentines Day, Easter, Christmas, St. Patrick's Day as well as books about Presidents and religious topics.
