| tcalbaz's Full Review: Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones |
I am going to try hard not to just rehash what's already been said in some of the reviews here.
Here's my take:
Attack Of The Clones has become my favorite Star Wars film yet. Anytime I start seeing sets of extreme movie reviews ranging from pro's to con's it sets a red flag off that a film should be seen.
Please note that I was able to display a considerable degree of restraint by waiting until the second day of release before seeing this remarkable film.
The visuals in this film are pure eye-candy. Starting with the hover car chase scenes right through to the 'Gladiators' style show-down in the arena. Cool innovative looking robots, vehicles and space ships. The fanatical attention to detail, culture, history and style are just wonderful to behold.
Somehow I felt that I would just love to be able to read historical references about the people, places and things presented in this story. (Lucas/Marketing are you listening?)
Some people knock the romance portrayed between Anakin and Senator Padmé Amidala. I thought Anakin was totally cool and believable as the apprentice Jedi Knight. Kind of like a budding young Caligua. I felt the developing romance between these two people was entirely appropriate, well paced and believable. I had no problem with the dialogue. People can get kind of nutty and mushy in romance. I've actually met people in positions of power who behave in this manner when in such situations. To his credit Mr. Lucas actually allowed a good deal of film footage to be devoted to the inter-personal dynamics of relationships between the characters.
During the chase scenes i was fascinated by the careful detail given to the myriad forms of advertising and entertainment culture presented as the characters traversed the street while on the ground. Somehow I think even in a place far far away a long time ago things don't really change that much...
This is a long movie. But it seemed to end way too soon.
I can't wait to see it again.
