I am a big fan of pretzels, but it's not often that I find myself snacking on them. It could be that I like spicy foods so much, or simply that I don't take the time to slow down and enjoy foods that often. When I do though, I turn to pretzels that fit what I am craving, and a lot of the time those are Snyder's brand of pretzels. This specific product isthe Snyder's Pretzel Rods, which come in a nice little bag that is often sold in the chip section of grocery stores and convenience stores. They aren't as common as brands like Rold Gold, but they are much more fulfilling, and in my opinion have a much better taste to them than a lot of brands out on the market.
The Snyder's pretzel rods are exactly like they sound like, consisting of long thick pretzels that are probably about 8 or 9 inches in length. They come in a bag very much like your typical chip bag, with all of the pretzels standing on end. They are pretty recognizable when you see them on the shelf, but if you need one final descripter, they come in a brown bag accentuated by some red bars of text. Each of the pretzels is salted and placed in the bag, so they are already prepared to just eat right out of the bag. One serving of the pretzels is considered three of the rods, with a serving size consisting of 120 calories and 290 mg of salt. Each serving is three of the pretzels, so you are getting a lot each time you go for a snack of these pretzels (in my opinion).
The pretzels don't have a lot of ingredients to them, which is good, and those ingredients are unbleached wheat flour, water, canola oil, potato flour, salt, oat fiber, yeast, and soda. They come out of the bag extremely fresh, and have a nice crunchy taste if you just bite them. That they are made into rods just makes it that much easier to dip them in sauces if you have something around the house, and it is something that I like to do all the time. Hot mustard is my favorite with them, but they also work well with a normal yellow mustard or even BBQ sauce. Really the sky is the limit, and the shape of the pretzels makes it really, really easy to dip with anything. If you are feeling like a dessert option, chocolate sauce works brilliantly with them too.
I really enjoy these Synder's of Hanover Rod Pretzels, and they are a brand I will stick with for years to come. I think that they are a great snack, and if you can manage how many you consume in a sitting, you can even come away not feeling guilty about having something like this. Each serving (3 whole pretzel rods) has only 1 gram of fat, and it's a tasty one at that. I should warn you though, that if you haven't tried Snyder's before, and you end up purchasing a bag, that there is no turning back from that point. You will be hooked, and converted to being a fan of Snyder's as well. At right around $2.00 for a 10 ounce bag of the pretzels, it is also an inexpensive option, but one that is so tasty that I will continue to give it high recommendations.
