Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
The premise of this movie is much like the song "Sexual Healing". The problem is, the two couples that it follows through their frustrations to the final conclusion of their seekings, are young, just *dating* and beautiful! They are facing problems of "boredom" in their sexual intimacy and seek out a sex therapist to cure their issues, and I sat watching this movie not believing one minute of it!
OK. The two couples, who live with one another, are as different as day and night. James (Macaulay Culkin, all grown up from his "Home Alone" days) is dating exotic looking Heather (Alexis Dzienza from "Fool's Gold") and they seem to have a very sweet, deep connection. Heather is frustrated and wants more "flavor" in their relationship and is willing to step outside the box and do anything to achieve that. The issue I have is that, there is no backstory, or complicated sex issues that they show upfront to convince me, as the viewer, that this is a couple on the verge of breaking up! There is sullen behavior, but they have respect for one another, so I just didn't get it.
The next couple, is more the typical couple. Kuno Becker and Eliza Dushku bring this feisty couple to life. They are just living together too, but they fight like cats and dogs, however, that anger and passion is also showcased in the bedroom, or elevator, or wherever the mood strikes, so I don't understand why they are trying to venture outside their relationship when the sparks are obviously there! They are both gorgeous and hot for one another, it just doesn't add up!
A sex therapist who advocates "group sex" and "Swinging" has sessions with both of these couples, and determines they are a good "match" for one another, and sets them up in her office to meet one another for the "therapy". Sheesh. If these two couples have problems, there is no hope for any of us! This is a movie that should be made for the average suburb parents who have 3 kids, 2 dogs, and no time for one another!
This movie is a bit slow, but very creative with the direction and dialogue. I was mildly entertained, and hung in there with it just to see where it would go. It is interesting, and not bad at all, it was just miscast and the screenwriter needed to get more realistic here. It could have been a great movie if they had! The acting is really good, I will give it that, but the character growth is just awkward at best!
I don't think I can recommend that you spend an hour and a half watching something that is just a big advertisement for the swinging community and doesn't live up to it's potential. It did not seduce me!!
