My kitty, Spooky "Spooktacular" Zick, is an indoor kitty, and a huge part of our household. Sometimes I think that she feels like we four humans are her pets, and that she allows us to live in the house as long as we do not overly disturb her sleep schedule. She will also allow us to give her cat treats, food and water when she feels like it. We adore her.
We recently moved from a home with lots of land and relative privacy to a busier street in the "city" (if you saw this city you'd laugh). Since kitty likes to go outside with the kids to play, we had to get her a necklace (as my girly daughter calls her collar)to attach her name tags. When we went to Walmart they were out of the pink collars (always a first choice) but did have a zebra striped black and white color that fit Spook's coloring perfectly. We purchased the necklace and never looked back.
Collars, I've learned, have come a long way since I was a kid. These collars have a special safety buckle instead of the belt buckle type of days of old. This upgrade is designed to release if the cat gets hung up on something to prevent a choking death. Another caveat is that it is much easier to get on than the buckle type if you have a cat who is resistant to wearing jewelry. However, once on, it is snug and does not come apart easily, which has been a concern from other brands.
This collar (and many others in all fairness) has a little bell attached, which I never realized the purpose for until recently. Watching everyone out playing, I saw my cat eyeball a little bird on the ground. Being very stealthy, she crept up on her would be treat. However, just before the death-pounce, her bell gave her position away and the bird easily flew off to safety. May I say that this does not, to my dismay, work for lizards. Yuck.
The material that the color is made from is a nylon material that is snag resistant. It is quite durable, but does get "fuzzy" over time. It is adjustable from 8 to 12 inches. To get the right fit for your cat, make sure you can get 2 fingers in between the cat's neck and the collar.
I got mine for $3.99, but have seen them as high as $5.00.
In response to cat owners' concerns, the Safe Cat buckle is designed to release when a cat's collar gets caught- allowing it to slip free. Keep you......More at Petsolutions
