KMINER's Full Review: Mac 224 Tapered Blending Brush
If someone had told me even 5 years ago that I would plunk down my hard earned money on a "brush" for applying makeup I'd have thought they were crazy. And yet here I am the very proud owner of many MAC makeup brushes ... and thrilled to tell you about each and every one of them.
MAC is a cosmetics company known by many makeup lovers. They are known in part for their "hands-on" cosmetic counters that really invite the purchaser in. They also have many knowledgeable staff to tell you about their products ... and usually the staff is carrying around the brushes to test as well!
The MAC 224 Tapered Blending Brush wasn't the first eyeshadow brush that I purchased, and for a while I wasn't even thinking about it being something I have to have. But once I started using various eyeshadow colors, layering, and wanting a "crease" look, this brush really did perform the best for me!
From the company:
"For controlled eye shadow application. This brush has soft fibers which taper to form a medium size dome shape. M·A·C professional brushes are hand-sculpted and assembled using the finest quality materials. They feature birch, linden and ramin wood handles, nickel-plated brass ferrules. 17 cm"
US $28.00
Yes I bought a $28 brush! And yes, it only does one thing ... apply eyeshadow in a very specific way. But what it does, it does well.
The brush itself has a long black handle with MAC logo. The bristles are tapered, as the name implies, and well spaced out. They are not very thick or close together, making a very "blendable" look. To use you swipe the desired color on the brush and then blend into the eyelid. Typically this brush is selected for the "smokey" or "crease" look. You know, when you'll see someone with a darker color somehow magically blended into the outer lid and up so that it creates definition? I always thought it was a look un-achievable for a regular makeup wearer such as myself ... until I realized it was just having the right brush!
This MAC 224 Tapered Blending Brush is really fool proof to use and gives a really nice look with ease. I just brush on some of the color and sweep the bristles back and forth over the upper and outer portion of the eyelid ... and Viola!
The brush itself stays in with my other brushes, in of course, a brush holder that keeps all the brushes upright. This brush is easy to clean, and the bristles can often rinsed and cleaned using either a specific cosmetic brush cleaner or my personal favorite a mild detergent baby shampoo. I've had my brush for around 3 years now and it still looks new! That's one of the reasons I really prefer to purchase my brushes from MAC - I find for the price they really last and work great!
The MAC 224 Tapered Blending Brush has been the best I've found to give a specific look when applying eyeshadow, and it's one I highly recommend!
