Harley-Davidson Brawler Jacket with Switchback Technology
I rode my Harley-Davidson with a group of four other Harley's West towards Douglasville, Georgia. It was a hot June afternoon and I was in my shirt sleeves as it was around 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
Fat, dumb, and happy, I was without a care in the world, but little did I know my little world was soon to be invaded by an ugly, out-of-control SUV that crossed the Interstate on two wheels, dropped down, accelerated, and t-boned my Hog.
I was mercifully knocked cold as the SUV immediately turned its hungry mouth away looking for another victim or I would have been crushed against the concrete barrier that separates the two sides of the Interstate. :o
As it was, the Harley Ultra Glide behind me hit my inert body , rudely gathered it up and dragged it 80 more feet on my back across the hot concrete pavement. When I awoke several days later, I thought I was in heaven and going to meet God. You know how they tell you about it in "The Enquirer" or on the talk shows. "You head towards the light, etc..."
But back to my review; as I said before, I was in my shirt sleeves. That is no excuse not to wear proper protective clothing, and I paid my dues as my back and arms and legs all bore witness. At 90 degrees it is just uncomfortable to wear a coat but Harley has come up with a new line of motor clothes to protect against abrasions and impacts and also with mesh inserts to allow the wind to blow free. Yee haw! I will not ride unprotected again, I assure you!
The Brawler motorcycle jacket is constructed out of nylon canvas with typical Harley embroidered decorations, sewn right onto the jacket, not patches but the designs are sewn into the fabric. Inside the shoulders and forearms of the jacket is plastic armor to protect against impacts and provide a barrier to abrasions that are what we bikers commonly call "road rash." There is also a big pocket across the back to insert another skid panel to prevent leaving your back plastered across some highway like mine was on I-20. :/
There are large fabric panels all across the body that zip off and underneath is nylon mesh that allows the wind to penetrate and keep you cool. A rain coat is also provided as part of the deal so you have that to carry in your saddlebag as well.
Very high tech motorcycle protective gear that I wish I had been wearing when I got those huge road abrasions. Ouch!!
The Harley dealer has a full array of these jackets in many sizes and I bought one to fit me.
Believe it or not, you can teach an old dog new tricks - even me!
