We were looking for a birthday gift for my niece and all we knew was we wanted to get her something for her to take on her 3 week trip to Germany. She is going over with high school students (who have completed at least 2 years of German) from around the US. It is a great program ~ they stay with hosting families, meet a lot of friends, experience new things and get some sightseeing in too. My oldest went and had a wonderful time and now my niece gets to go and we are all excited for her.
FINDING THE RIGHT BAG
Well, Jessica has luggage and a backpack but she doesn't have a smaller, personal bag to take so we decided that is what we would buy her. I wasn't sure which one to get but I did know which brand ~ Eagle Creek as we have always had so much luck with their products.
After searching the Eagle Creek site and checking out a few B&M stores, I found the perfect bag, the Eagle Creek Sidekick. It cost forty dollars.
It did turn out to be a great choice as Jessica used it a few days after we gave it to her for a four day trip and loved it. In fact, she liked it so much she bought the same one for my daughter's birthday later in the month. I used it when we went to Whistler and I have to agree that this really is a great bag!
WHAT MAKES THIS A GREAT BAG?
As I may have said a million times, I LOVE EAGLE CREEK PRODUCTS! I have NEVER had a single problem with any I own or have given as gifts. Their quality is hard to beat and if you ever did have a problem they all come with a lifetime guarantee! Besides the brand and guarantee here are the other reasons I recommend the Eagle Creek Sidekick ~
1. The main reason would be the fact that it is versatile ~ you can wear it around your waist OR over your shoulder. This means you don't have to shuffle your things around to two different bags, just change over to the method you need. There is a little pocket that hides the strap that you are not using so it doesn't look odd either way.
2. Next, the double-zippered main compartment. This holds A LOT more than I first thought it would. I was able to put in my camera, extra film, cell phone, walkie talkie, an ID folder that contains pictures and medical information on all my children (we were skiing and as terrible as that sounds I take it with me all the time in case I am hurt and unable to give the information), sunscreen and chap stick with room left over.
3. The lockable front organizer panel. This is great to store credit cards, documents, room keys, money etc. that you won't need to get to often and don't want to chance falling out.
4. There is still more storage area ~ there are two flat pockets. Both of these pockets zip close so they are great for room keys, money, car keys, passes etc. anything you want fast access to but can still be zipped shut.
5. Both of the straps are really comfortable. The shoulder strap is padded over the shoulder so there is no digging in. The waist belt can adjust up to 49 inches.
6. The size and weight are just right ~ 11 x 7 x 3" and it weighs in at just 13 ounces. My one and only complaint ~ I would like a specific pocket for my cell phone. All of my purses and the backpack I use have one and it is so much easier to just reach in and grab the phone than to have to open the bag and then search for it. Not that big of a deal, since the bag is not that large but it is a feature I am use to and enjoy having.
7. The bag is made out of Cordura Plus Nylon. This is really strong and VERY difficult to rip. this is always a good thing with kids but one that is not too much of a worry with the lifetime guarantee they offer.
8. I like the fact that there are 5 different color choices ~ Black Khaki Deep Forest Blue Brick ~ although not all colors are available every store. I thought that was kind of odd, everywhere I checked offered a different set of colors.
~~ ** ~~ ** ~~ 2BUZY'S FINAL THOUGHTS ~~ ** ~~ ** ~~
I would highly recommend the Eagle Creek Sidekick.
It is a versatile bag that holds a lot and can worn around the waist or over the shoulder. It can be used by a male or female ~ my husband (who is well over 6 feet) used it as a waist pack when we went ice skating and it didn't look odd at all. The bag is well constructed and comes in a variety of colors. Add in the fact that it is an Eagle Creek with a lifetime warranty and it is hard to go wrong!
