I thought this product was sheer genius when I saw it. More and more products are coming out with unscented, clear type products where many of us grew up with the scented, colored version. Lotions for bites and things like poison ivy quickly bring up images of a bright pink lotion. Everyone who knew that lotion knew that everyone that saw you quickly knew you were using that lotion as the pink dried everywhere! But it worked and was all we had ...
until they released Caladryl Clear Lotion.
Ours came in a 6 ounce plastic bottle, mostly white with green lettering. It has a flip top and the clear product comes out easily when squeezed. We picked it up at a local drugstore when we first started having itching and skin problems in the family.
We first purchased this product when my husband came in contact with poison oak while cleaning out the yard and brush around our house. Even though he went to the doctor's and got some medication, it was recommended that he use some sort of anti-itch lotion to help with the redness and day to day scratching. Quickly he found relief once he applied this product ... and better yet no one had to know he was using it since it dried clear!
We've also had to use this product when my son got chicken pox a year ago, and it really helped the itching there as well. Additionally this summer we had to pull out the Caladryl Clear Lotion when the same child got a tick bite that ended up needing treatment.
Caladryl Clear Lotion is marketed as a topical analgesic (Pramoxine HCL 1%) and skin protectant (Zinc acetate 0.1%). It is recommended for: "temporarily relieves pain and itching associated with: rashes due to poison ivy, poison oak, or poison sumac; insect bites; minor skin irritation; minor cuts; and it dries the oozing and weeping of poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac."
The product comes out as a clear gel - and it really does look like a gel and not like a lotion at all. It is easily dabbed onto a cotton ball and pad and then applied. There is not rubbing and the product absorbs in after a little bit - you more dab on and coat the area than anything. Relief has been in minutes according to everyone in the family ... another plus! We noticed having to reapply every 3 to 5 hours depending.
Caladryl Clear Lotion is something to have on hand for families or anyone that thinks they might be outside. It is easily stored in the closet and is always ready to use. It can be used on anyone over 2 years old and it performs beautifully. We highly recommend this product in our house.
