Kidnykid's Full Review: Sanaya Roman and Duane Packer - Creating Money: At...
I'd first reviewed this book on the now-defunct Themestream. In that review, I made no secret of my distaste for the orientation of the writers, in the belief that it interferes with a reader's ability to obtain useful information from a book like CREATING MONEY.
Unlike RICH DAD, POOR DAD, CREATING MONEY contains some useful information on money management. People reading this tome are advised, for example, to discuss their budgeting expectations with those sharing their home. If you are more frugal with the food budget than your husband, the two of you are going to have to sit down and discuss your individual expectations, preferably with a third party present so the two of you don't end up doing something untoward.
The authors also discuss the advisability of having a contract in certain situations, and to make that contract as clear as possible so that misunderstandings and other adverse consequences are avoided. Even in more informal settings, such clarity is advised so that parties to a potential disagreement do not have to enter into a disagreement in the first place.
The problem is its New Age approach. It's a channeled book, offered through the people who actually pounded the typewriter keys by spirit guides named Orin and DaBen. Plenty of readers out there are as distressed by books like this as I am, because New Age visualization techniques are mixed in with other nonsense, as well as common-sense notions of good business practice. For those who would prefer to mix Christian ideas of tithing and generosity with their financial plans, such New Age notions are actively offensive. At the least, Orin and DaBen make this book so hard to understand that it is all but unuseable by any but the most loopy of New Agers.
For those curious about where I got the word "psychoceramicist," it's simply a fancy term for "crackpot." That's what I think of the language used in this book - it feels as if it were written by a crackpot with some idea of good business practices. Because it's so difficult to understand, I don't recommend this book for anyone looking for sound financial advice written in plain English.
