thomaslifting's Full Review: BlackHawk Sportster SERPA Holster Right Hand Glock...
I love the BlackHawk SERPA holster, and would recommend it to all who carry a side arm. I'm a Law Enforcement Officer and have carried my Glock 17 (standard size) for a little over two years. I have used other holsters of different makes and retention abilities, and the BlackHawk has been far superior.
The BlackHawk Sportster SERPA is a dual retention (meaning two actions to operate) holster. The first retention feature is pressure. The Gun must be pressed down into the holster in order for the second safety to release the gun. I especially like this feature for the immediate protection it provides for the user under attack. In the case of an attack the perpetrator will typically attempt to pull the gun up by force, but with the BlackHawk SERPA the offender will fail miserably as the gun is locked in. The second retention action needed to remove the gun is the new SERPA design that locks into the trigger guard of the gun until the outside button is pressed. The release button is located on the outside of the holster directly in line with your pointer finger if the operator grips the gun properly. To further illustrate the user must press the gun down into the holster and operate the SERPA button in order control the gun. This is difficult if attempted by anyone other than the operator, especially if product knowledge is unknown. I haven't had any problem with running or even wrestling the gun is extremely secure.
Although the retention system is in my opinion the most important aspect of the BlackHawk SERPA, another major quality needed in a good duty holster is in the draw. I have personally fired thousands of bullets from this SERPA system, and have found the SERPA lock to work very quickly and smooth when drawing your weapon. The operating system is easy to learn for shooters of all levels from beginners to the season veteran.
You should be able to find the BlackHawk holster in black, desert tan, and olive green, with either the carbon or matte finish. There shouldn't be a problem in getting the holster for either of the right or left-handed shooter. The product should come with the paddle (to slip on top of your belt) or the belt lops attachment, for the consumers' choice.
The caution I would raise is this holster does not do well with concealment. As well as keep an eye out for the screws on the inside as they will work loose over a period of time.
