The Avalon comes into its own: Not just for retirees anymore

by gadianton
Jul 10 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Combination of great power & gas mileage; handling; value; reliability; styling; technology
Cons: Distribution of spacing favors backseat over front; begs for a touchscreen navigation system vs. push-button
The Bottom Line: The Avalon finally delivers and distinguishes itself from the Camry. To find a car from another automaker that can compare, you'll be moving into the $50K range and beyond.

Author's note: This review is longer than most, so I split it up into sections so you can focus on what you're most interested in. For those who are car shopping and want to know why I decided the Avalon was the way to go, start from the beginning. For ...

Avalon - Toyota or Buick?

by alexaks
Dec 29 '05

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Passenger room, reclining rear seats, cabin design, quite ride.
Cons: Cheap plastic, navigation/radio controls, dull handling, Buick feel.
The Bottom Line: Avalon does not stand out from the crowd and with a hefty price tag, I would look around for a better value.

My father-in-law has just traded in his 2002 Toyota Avalon and bought 2006 Toyota Avalon Limited. I drove it for a few days putting about 400 miles on the car. I liked: passenger room, reclining rear seats, cabin design, quiet ride. I did not ...

Many Strengths and Weaknesses

Jan 14 '08

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Mileage, space
Cons: Front end plow, sloppy steering
The Bottom Line: If you hate GM and need a large Buick Sedan, this is a good choice. For maximum value, negotiate a deal on a Buick with an Extended Warranty.

Read Toyota TSB ST002-06 BEFORE you buy this car and do NOT expect Toyota to replace the part if you are out of miles on the warranty. Interesting car. I own 2006 Limited and two other Toyos. The Avalon is great for space, huge cabin in this ...

Avalon Navigation System Sucks

by dhkorn
Jan 24 '06

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: I always like the Avalon, except the Nav controls
Cons: The Navigation System
The Bottom Line: Buy the car, skip the nav system.

I just can't understand what the people at Toyota were thinking. Don't they test what they build? I just took delivery of two new 2006 Toyotas, a Highlander Hybrid and an Avalon, both with Navigation systems. I got the Highlander first. I never had a ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Price, spaciousness, audio/nav system, ride, sleek design, extras
Cons: No door bumpers, front seats could be wider, small review mirror
The Bottom Line: This ain't your granny's car anymore! If you want luxury, a smooth ride, fun extras, and great Toyota service, this is the car for you!

I bought my 2007 Avalon Limited on 9/11...no real purpose in that date, but it just happened that way. I was extremely frustrated by the choices on Toyota lots in my area, until I went to the largest and most respected Toyota dealership in Nashville, ...

Best Car

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Quiet,Speed,31.5 on the xway, fit and finish.
Cons: Price
I bought the car in October 2005,and I have 6500 miles on it. I compare the car with my wifes buick park avenue ultra. The Avalon XLS beats the ultra in every way,it's more quiet,a lot more quiet, has more speed, and on the e-way I get between 31.5 and 32.5 mpg. If you want a freeway car this is it. Can you compare this to a Lexus sure, pay a lot more for the lexus, and get the lexus name plate.

Pros: Ride, handling, style VALUE.
Cons: Navigation ought to have touch-screen controls. No bluetooth.
Superb ride & handling, ultra quiet, sleek stying. Limited has just about everything I could want. Roomy all around, good visibility. Stereo sound is about as good as it gets (& I'm a performing & recording musician with high standards). Very satisfied so far.

One Vexing Car
by magrezza
May 22 '06
Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Comfort, headroom, acceleration, a/c seats, sound system, braking, rear seat room, quality leather, quiet interior.
Cons: Toyota service, No Bluetooth, rearview mirror memory, steering memory, tires too small, no backup sensor.
I have owned about 15 cars in the last 26 years, including BMW (Z3 /325), Mercedes (C230), Honda (civic), Toyota (Paseo, '95 Avalon, Corolla), Jeep (Liberty), VW (Passat)--from sports cars to 4-door passenger vehicles. My '06 Avalon is the most vexing of all cars. It has the potential to be the best car I've owned, yet is plagued with either flaws or "misses" on the part of Toyota. Incredible Acceleration, yet small tires that don't meet performance capabilities. A/C in my seats, yet my rear view mirror doesn't have memory. Tight construction, yet I have a window that rattles, noises in my steering column, and a host of other small issues that had to be resolved. Service is Toyota--akin to owning a Yaris, which costs 1/3 of the Avalon. If Toyota could get their act together, this car could outsell many others--still too many negatives to not consider the Lexus as my next vehicle. I Love it! I Hate it! Toyota--get your act together, and you could rule the world with this one!

Pros: great mpg 30 hwy, 25 in town. great ride. nice looking too. what a combination.
Cons: stereo tends to be a bit on the less than terrfic side.
30 mpg at 75 mph relatively flat 25 mpg in town. I got the JBL so that i could add a satelite xm. Put it in this weekend got it through ebay. works great. Smooth ride. very quick. doors open really wide for easy entrance and exit. Steering is good and handles ok through corners. this is not a sports car. lots of looks and complements. seats are comfortable a little less with the perforated seats though. but still comfortable. couldn't have asked for any more. Very pleased with this car. Traded an avalanche truck.
