norton v mcafee 08

I am running a new gateway m1615 amd64 w/ vista nand the trial period for mcafee is over. I need to upgrade and need some advise on long term experience and compatibility with both. The older threads don't get into the Vista issue so I thought starting the new thread would be beneficial.

Thanks
Vince

try AVG

Years ago my pc downloaded an update from McAfee that was incompatible with my operating system and I had to reinstall windows. I went to AVG as a result. Wish I'd stayed with them! I got Norton 360 with a new computer that's coming up for renewal and I kept getting reminders. On renewing, and upgrading as recommended, they've done me out of the remaining time on my original licence, I can't download to a second PC (they promise "up to three"), and the cancel renewal button (they say they take your credit card details and will renew automatically and just take your money) is not on the "My Account" page as it's supposed to be. They are either crooks or incompetents, and either way I'm back to AVG as soon as I can get this mess sorted. I really do not understand how McAfee and Norton still survive when they are so naff - Google "norton rip off" and you'll see I'm not alone, then buy AVG!

RE: try AVG

After much searching their help pages I've actually found out how to get Norton 360 on a second computer, so maybe it's not quite such a disaster, but they certianly don't make it easy!

Maybe not so bad

After an irate email to customer support, Norton have refunded the lost days on my original subscription and given further guidance on downloading and saving the Norton 360 v2 exe file, so maybe they're not so bad as I first thought, though I still think these things should be plainer on their web site.
