Marilyn Monroe – Suicide or Cover-up?

Hello. If you could give me your brief opinion, it would be much appreciated. I’m writing a paper for my Philosophy class at UVM with the focus being Marilyn Monroe’s death…which is listed as a “suicide” but many believe to have been a cover-up. I’ve been doing a lot of research on the topic i.e. collecting books, articles (this month’s Playboy actually had a great in-depth look at the whole story, including transcripts written by her to her psychiatrist…as did the LA Times back in August) films, etc…but I also thought to ask specific people throughout the net about their thoughts on the case.

Hopefully this topic won’t lead to too much flaming etc. And please be nice to the newbie! Like I said, any info would be great.

Thanks and think snow!

Marilyn Monroe

The student asked about Marilyn Monroe. I have been to her memorial services and read dozens of books about her and I have come to the conclusion after speaking to her friends and photographers who knew her that she died of an overdose of barbituates but I believe it was not suicide in the sense that she thought that she actually would die but I think it was an impulse from a very rapid crash of depression. Marilyn was bi-polar. She was being treated for that when she died. She had tremendous highs and lows and I think that something upset her the night she died and I think that she probably took an overdose in reply to it. She had tried several times- there is no doubt about that- Harvey Weinstein and Arthur Miller saved her and she also tried when she was young. I suffer from severe depression and I know what that crash is like. I think despite what all these people are going on about tapes and murder and all this, there is one thing that is definite- she was a shy, sensitive woman who felt like an outsider her whole life and despite all the fame she could achieve, nothing took away the emptiness. That's hard to describe for someone who doesn't feel that way. I think that above all, she probably accidently overdosed and we should not be concerned so much with her death but how much happiness she gave to us.
