The unit is called the "little" and it's abbreviated "L." It's called "little" because it's much smaller than a gallon. If you use it in a sentence, the proper syntax would be, "I just filled my car with 45 littles."
And "KM" stands for "Kill Miles," which is what the French (who invented this measurement) would like to do.
Any other questions?

Don't worry. We Canadians have chosen that, for the time being, we will let the USA be. But be warned, one day we will attack, and byg-d, Canada will be the superpower of the world! :)
I suspect we have enough politics on Epinions already, so I won't go any further...LOL =)

Careful. Under this administration, that'll get the FBI sent to your door.
Oops... were we not supposed to talk about politics?
Anyway, my girlfriend's Prius averages about 45 MPG, which is good, but--as others have mentioned--bettered by lightweight, low-powered cars from two decades ago. I think that, in the States, we don't do enough urban driving to fully realize this technology's mileage potential. The real fuel savings happens during engine-off city pootling.
The real difference between the thirty-year-old diesel Rabbit and a Hybrid car is emissions. Hybrids may not end up saving you money in the purchase/gas price equation, but if you've lived in a smog bowl like LA or Sacramento, what comes out the tailpipe is highly relevant.
I don't think anyone's buying Hybrids to pinch pennies, anyway. It's either about reducing emissions and fuel consumption in good conscience, or because of the trendy, pious image. The latter is okay with me, as long as it results in more people using less gas.
Carnut2k4, about the Prius-owner stereotype: we only have one cat, and... well... maybe watch little Star Trek. Occasionally.

Toyota Prius
I purchased a Prius on 12/31/05
I have filled up 3 times since:
48.39
35.79
48.38 MPG
Current tank is going at the rate of 50 MPG.
The Prius takes a different driving method. I purchased this vehicle after having success with my Saturn SW2 wagon. I moved the average MPG from 25 - 30 by changing my driving method. I felt I could do much better with a Prius & I have.
The different driving method includes: Getting off the gas every possible time. Gentle acceleration. Looking down the road to through several intersections to understand how the traffic is flowing and take advantage of when you can coast.
This leads to better MPG, less break wear, fewer accidents.
YES it does seem as if everyone is passing you. They do not pass gas stations. Get in the habit of waving to gas stations as that is all you will do with most of them. |

RE: Hybrids and such
Most of you seem to think that hybrids aren't the best choice at this time, and I think you're correct, but you can't just go by the mileage. For instance, the diesel rabbit gets better gas mileage than the gas version, but around here at the present time (Dallas area) diesel is about 30 cents per gallon higher than gas. |

Cost of diesel fuel
Historically, diesel fuel has been less expensive than gasoline, although it happens to be higher at the moment. It's my understanding that at least one of the reasons why diesel usually costs less than gasoline is that diesel requires less refining. However, the requirement for low-sulphur diesel may increase the processing of diesel fuel, which will likely increase its price.

Any new hybrid mileage reports?
I was just curious to see if anyone has bought a hybrid and would like to post their mileage to this thread. |

RE: Any new hybrid mileage reports?
Lots of people have written reviews of hybrids and listed their gas mileage. Check out a few of the top-rated reviews for each hybrid if you are interested in gas mileage.
