RefurbDepot.com Experiences

I am interested in your experiences with Refurb Depot. I hope you all write/wrote a review about those experiences, good or bad, but I also would like to know here what you thought of your experience with this site.

Anyone ever use the site for a purchase?

Patty

RE: RefurbDepot.com Experiences

Hey Patty -

I had never heard of this site, but it looks very interesting. I'll keep them in mind next time I plan to buy electronics etc.

No!

No! Don't. *ack*

So far as I can tell, they are ripping me off. I am waiting to see but if they don't respond today, I am going to my credit card company and to the internet fraud place.

Bad news, they are. Bad news.

RE: RefurbDepot.com Experiences

This will teach me to order from someone in a hurry. I usually research company's before I order this time I was doing a rush job for a customer and choked miserably. After I made the order, waited too long for a response, checked out the other reviews on them on the web, canceled the order with them they charged my credit card anyway. Gypsy's tramps and thieves. If you do business with these fly by nighters expect the worst. My wife is in process of canceling the purchase through the bank.

I wonder how people like this sleep at night?

Refurb Depot - Terrible

Real bad. I wrote a review of what happened with them but it doesn't really relate how terrible the experience has been.

I finally got a refund BUT it was minus the 15% restocking fee. I am fighting this because I didn't want to return the item, I wanted an exchange. THEY decided to give me a refund.

Worst website I ever dealt with and I have dealt with thousands.

RefurbDepot

I have found number of negative posts in re: RefurbDepot.com dating back to 2000, but my two recent experiences with them were both smooth and without issue.

I purchased a refurbished Canon camcorder from them about two weeks ago and was extremely pleased with the value, quality and speed of delivery. So much so that I ordered a dehumidifier from them last weekend - it arrived yesterday (four days total). Great price and no sales tax - which can be significant. Their shipping rates are more than reasonable, and seem better than other sellers (check what most sellers charge on eBay).

While I can't speak to their customer service or the quality of "big ticket" items like computers, I will defintely consider them in the future. Were I to buy a laptop from them, I would definitely call them first to make sure that they would not charge my credit card until the item shipped.

Awful experience bordering on illegal

I had an awful experience with Refurb Depot. I ordered a home theater system which broke within the first week. I was told to take it to a Panasonic-approved repair shop, which said that the unit was defective and that there were pieces missing from inside the actual unit.

I returned the unit to Refurb Depot and after refusing to give me my money back, they sent me a replacement, which was also defective. They continue to refuse to give me my money back, insisting that their policy says they will only replace the unit.

Refurb Depot sells defective merchandise and doesn't take responsibility for the products that leave their warehouse.

I threatened to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the customer service representative I spoke with said "Fine, do it."

The Attorney General in your area should be able to get things done. Look it up on the net and call. I have seen many cases settled quickly in the buyer's favor when the AG stepped in.

Refurb Depot

About refurbdepot.com - They may be fine if they happen to have your item in stock. But if they don't, you will never hear from them.

I suspect that they just flood they're website with products, then cherry pick the ones that are profitable/in stock.

RE: RefurbDepot.com Experiences

Absolute crooks! There are BBB and Internet Fraud Complaints filed against this company. I'll edit my torturous play-by-play down to a brief summary. Was charged for a computer Dec 17th 2005 that arrived looking like someone slid their tower, mouse and keyboard into an unmarked box and called UPS for pick-up. That was all that arrived - no invoice, hardware, instructions etc. The unit did not boot up. Even though the unit was obviously not complete, Refurb depot insisted that I deal w/HP tech service to make sure that it was truly a refurb depot issue. That was an hour of my life I'll never get back. I'm not a computer whiz, but I don't believe the unit had a hard drive installed. Fast forward past the numerous phone calls and emails - which contained conflicting instructions- with refurb depot, after the HP phone call: I returned the unit, I've been in contact by phone and email for over 2 weeks - on 1 day a rep said "a unit is being shipped tomorrow," a week later a rep said,"it will go out today," the following week another said,"it is being processed for shipment." They haven't answered my refund request. As you're reading this, if this process seems straightforward it is because I spared many rabbit-chasing details. Their customer service is incompetent and their business practices border on the criminal.

Refub Depot

They should be shut down. I shopped around a while and against the opinion of my boyfriend, ordered a "refurbished" video camera from them for around $500. After a month and a half and several unanswered emails I'd sent them, I got an email from "customer service" saying that they had shipped the package. It arrived a week later and the camera worked for five minutes. Now I get a warning saying that there is condensation... I tried to contact them several times and now the time for refund has passed. Very frustrating. (Not only that, no one likes to hear "I told you so" from their significant other.)

I know they must being doing this kind of thing to everyone but most people don't know the proper channels to go through. I certainly don't.

Everything went smoothly

I bought a Canon 800SD digital camera from them. I saved a LOT of money. Even with shipping, the camera was $80.00 less than any local camera shop. And that doesn't include the additional 8 1/4% sales tax I'd have to fork out at the local shop.

The camera works perfectly. It came with all the proper stuff - cables, manuals, etc. It arrived in a timely manner. I was able to track its progress across the continent.

Given the other horrifying comments posted here, I feel like I dodged a bullet. How much saving is worth the risk? That's hard to say. It's always worth it when things work out. But there's no question that it's a gamble. For instance, I'm glad I didn't have to return it. They have a 15% restocking fee. That puts a big dent in any savings.

One must consider that comments on a message board like this will be heavily biased toward the negative. That's because people who had a bad experience are motivated to get their story out, while satisfied customers have little incentive to post. Even so, the messages posted here are enough to warrant serious caution.

incompetent

They may be crooks, but they are inept as well. I placed an order, and the confirmation came back with an "unconfirmed billing address" notice. I saw that the billing address they had for me had the street address entered twice. I replies with the correct address, and heard nothing for a week. I checked asgain for order status, and it said "pending billing address confirmation'. I e-mailed a second time, and a week later, the same status appeared. I canceled the order. Good thing, based upon the reviews above. Now I'm worried they'll charge my card anyhow.

LOAD OF CRAP

Alright last week thursday i ordered a refurbished xbox 360 premium...$275 fairly good deal. Next day i called them to check up on my order because it had still said "processing" so it took about 15-20 minutes of waiting for an answer, Lady told me it's shipped you should get it monday or tuesday. I was expecting it today considering it's tuesday, but still no box, so i called them waited at least a half an hour....dumb biatch tells me the xbox was never shipped and that there's a "problem" and to be patient and wait till tomorrow to call them. I was pretty mad so i asked her why i was told it was shipped on friday, so she got all technical and said a load of crap i really didn't want to hear, so now i'm just going to wait till tomorrow, if i don't get an assurence that it's being sent i'm getting my refund

Should have ordered damn thing from here http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2570726&Sku=M17-4168&SRCCODE=GOOGLEBASE&CMP=OTC-GOOGLEBASE

RE: LOAD OF CRAP

Watch these people closely. If you don't get your item soon, start a dispute with your credit card company. In my experience, they are very shady.

Feel free to write a review about your experiences here on Epinions to let everyone know what happened.

If you need the link to the area to write a review, just let me know. I will post it and you all can review the site - good experiences and bad - for consumers to read.

Bad business

I bought a refurb xbox 360... I waited a few days and it still said "processing" I called and after 28 minutes on hold I got a live person who told me the order was not shipped yet. I asked if the item was in stock and they said it wasn't. SO, maybe I could get a refund...? They cancelled the order (which I had to ask them to do) and refunded my money. It takes a while before the funds come back to your account...
