Camp Shane conspiracy

Has anyone noticed the influx of new members who join and write a 5-star review of Camp Shane, then never post again? I think they are having their employees flood the site with positive reviews after a couple of REAL reviewers posted bad ones.

March Madness is Really About Camps

Welcome to March in K&F. It's not limited to Camp Shane... you'll see an influx of a bunch of crap reviews on tons of the camps. The camp owners/directors send out requests for parents/kids to write glowing reviews of the camps. Then the section gets unundated by a bunch of SH reviews from people who will never again return to the site unless it's to join the following year with a new ID and do it all over again.

RE: Camp Shane conspiracy

tis the season for that crap to hit K&F. every year it happens and every year I so politely explain that buried reviews don't help your camp - so don't waste your time flooding eps with epinions that will never be seen with anyone but members.

Wait...

Did you say polite? LOL.

I've honestly given up being very polite OR tactful. I wish Eps would contact the camp directors and explain that it does more harm than good to request that the site be flooded with sub-par reviews.

I actually have a friend who was going to request that her customers all post reviews, but I explained that they needed to take the time and not just quote a mantra and she realized that, unfortunately, the majority of people can't or won't be bothered to write more than "the people who think this product sucks should be shot, because it RAWKS."

RE: Wait...

However...
Camp Shane certainly does seem to **seasonally** receive too many, dare I say, non-believable entries.

RE: Wait...

It makes me wonder if they give some kind of discount to people who write reviews.

That is hilarious!

I just went and checked out that section of the website. You're right, there are tons of people who wrote only that one review. Many of them even have their name based on the camp in some way, which tells me they probably were never intending to write more than one review. It's like "campshanerocks" v. "campshanesucks" Then they all argue back and forth in the comment thread! I am always skeptical when someone who works at a place writes a review, but I never thought about the idea that perhaps the camp gives a discount or something for doing it.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the "conspiracy" with me, it made me laugh!

Camp Kingsmont is ranked #1

at Epinions.

I think that might be one reason that Camp Shane is getting a rash of reviews. They want first place!!!

Both camps have weight loss as their focus and they market to the same geographical areas - so there is competition.

I checked them both out for my daughter. Epinions was my greatest resource!

Camp Shane packing the board?

I was wondering about the influx of reviews that glowed in the dark about "good ole' Camp Shane". I worked there one month and no one, even the pro-Camp Shaners, said that everything was A-OK.

Wonder how they're doing this summer? I heard that David E. was convicted of tax evasion. Hmmm. Not enough water coolers or staff at the camp, but he pocketed quite a bit of extra cash. Makes me angry.

i just got offered a job to camp shane. i was offered the arts andcrafts instructing position. they arent paying me m,uch but i dontreally want to work there for the money. what should i expect from their camp? i was told that many of thestaff leave after two weeks because they werent strong enough to deal with the pressure from the kids. what ami getting myself into. should i just take thejob andthen wait till my first choice camp offers me the job? the other job pays about 3000 more than shane. shane pays me 1100 plus tipseven though i have four years plus experience.

RE: camp shane???

Did you get any reply to this, i'm an international hired on the waterfront, i'm still going to go. This website is unsettling but feck it, would love to know if you got any direct reply as shane is aware (i've spoken to them about this) of all the bad... and it is bad publicity they're getting here

Search for any information you can find...

before sending a camper- or spending a summer to work at Camp Shane. If you can -visit during an open house weekend. Check out sites for camp nurses for their input as well (a few nurses have written about horrible experiences at Shane)

I was not impressed when my daughter and I visited. Upon arrival home- I searched the internet for info- Epinions was the greatest source.

Thanks to my research, My daughter ended up at another weight loss camp- It was the same price- but the location, accomodations (college town houses) and camp program were wonderful!

I urge everyone to write a review...

to help parents (and staff) make an informed choice about Camp Shane.

The reviews are what most people will read (not comments or the message board)

Thank You!

My daughter is there now and wants to leave, can someone tell me more about these horrible experiences there? Please email me anything you know. I am quite concerened and am trying to decide if it is really true, all these things about the bathrooms and the lack of care, or if it is the "homesickness" as they say. help.
