I have had 5 kids and only the last one has decided to become a thumb sucker. I have no idea how to deal with this. Has anyone here every tried to break this habit?

I had a friend that sucked his thumb until he was 16. I walked in his room when he was sleeping and there he was just sucking away. I do not want this for my daughter.

Does anyone make a device that prevents kids from sucking their thumbs? She is 2 years old and has never liked a pacifier.

Please help.

Hi, I have 2 thumbsuckers myself.

I found that mine grew out of it- my oldest was around 5 and started going to school and eventually got embarrassed over it and quit. My youngest wasn't too bad about it in the first place, but she has about stopped unless she gets severely tired.

I know the One Step Ahead catalog makes a thumbguard to stop it, but I believe it is priced around $70. Don't try to stop it using hot sauce.

We only had a pacifier experience here, but that was difficult enough in itself to break. The one thing that helped us the most was his first trip to the dentist when she told him the paci was hurting his teeth. I advocate for little ones to get the dentist as soon as they have teeth, so this may be an option for you as well. once the dentist says it you can use that as a reminder that it will hurt her teeth.
