Summer Plans....

Now that summer is in full swing (supposedly anyway... 60 degrees here today), what are your plans for the summer? What are your favorite things to do with your kids and how do you keep them from getting bored?

My personal struggle is finding things of interest around town such as activities, play groups and such for my almost preschooler. What resources have you found for kids activities?

Carrie

RE: Summer Plans....

Well... it is kind of "business as usual" here even in the summertime because my son does school year round. He had his last day on Wednesday and then has extended school year (ESY) for all of july and part of August. In the meantime I sandwhiched his ESY with a week of camp on each end. So, he has camp next week which he is really looking forward to - it is a daycamp that I drive him to where they swim and go on trips and stuff.

My daughter wrapped up her dance classes last week so I enrolled her in the summer program which starts in July and she'll have her weekly dance class which she loves.

Around that, we play outside a lot.. in the yard and with friends in the neighborhood. Sometimes I think my daughter just has the most fun playing with the garden hose helping me water flowers!!!

We are also pretty spoiled because we have great beaches here but they are real crowded on the weekends but mid-week during the day they are mostly 'for the locals'. While big brother is away at school/camp we'll do some of the things like going to the beaches and boardwalk just the 2 of us.

On rainy days we like to hit the library. The library system by us also has a lot of awesome programs for the kids that are free so we do a handful of those a month - storytimes, etc. Barnes & Noble storytime is also good for a rainyday.. or play at their traintable, look at books while I have a cup of coffee!

I am a part of a couple of moms groups but I'm not the most active in the them - though their schedule/calendar gives me lots of great ideas for activities to do. There is a meetup.com group and also some on yahoogroups for my area.

Jealous! Man I need to move out of this city :)

Do you have any of the new "Java Jungle" style places there yet. I went to one similzr last weekend which is a cafe with a play place. So instead of going to McDonalds to play it's a coffee shop? I bet both of you would love something like that.

RE: Summer Plans....

There are a bunch of the 'pay for play' type places one is Klimbin Kidz and another is Jungle of Fun or something along those lines (Jungleriffic?) and Party Gym but none of them have coffee shops!! Shoot.. if they did I'd be happy.

Heck, we go to dunkin donuts quite regularly as it is...

My daughter knows how I take my coffee.. and the difference between 'light and sweet' 'black with sugar' etc is.... how funny is that???

RE: Summer Plans....

We live in a small town.

So we have the big backyard and usual summer toys. We have a shed with toy storage for outdoor stuff, a Little Tykes playhouse and a swingset. My son's 8 so he has friends over. The girls are 2 1/2 and 11 months so ....

We are headed on 2 vacations - though gas sucks :(

The first one to Virginia Beach, that one will be pricey but thankfully only 5 hours away.

The other one is back home to see family in NY, but that's a cheap trip except for the 10 hour drive.

We're doing a lot local this year for a variety of reasons.
