Congratulations!! Have a great time. Colorado is beautiful...at least during the summer. I'm not sure about the whole snow thing in January. :)

Right now the only definite trip in 2009 is a Boston, MA and Bar Harbor, ME combo trip in late May.

I also have a "maybe" trip to Las Vegas sometime in February.

Good for you! And thanks for starting the always popular yearly topic.

For a minute I was thinking I didn't have a 2009 trip booked yet and that made me sad, but then I remembered that our December cruise goes over New Year's Eve. Still, I'm definitely less "planned" than usual for the upcoming year.

RE: Vacations 2009!!

Up until my oldest kid hit 1st grade, I *NEVER* planned trips in advance, but now our vacation schedule looks an awful lot like the school's vacation schedule. Fortunately, I still have the option to go by myself or with my younger son when I just get the whim and/or spot a killer deal.

Buen viajes a todos!

2009??!!

We haven't finished with 2008! On November 28, we're going back to Cape Town, South Africa, and this time we're doing a little bit of the Wine Route... on the way there, we're stopping in Namibia for a few days.

Thinking that in 2009, we'll meet Chris (cr01) as they're finishing their holiday in East Africa. A

And, of course, I have to make my "duty" trip to the US in January to see my family, and I always tell hubby that "duty" trips do not count as vacation. Once in the US, I'll make my annual visit to friends in NYC!

No definite vacation plans yet for 2009, though.

RE: Vacations 2009!!

The boys and I are going to Orlando in March - their first time to Disneyworld, although they are Disneyland veterans.

I think we're talking about doing a roadtrip next summer to the Wyoming national parks and maybe even venture over to South Dakota to see Rushmore and the Badlands.

Other than that, nothing too exotic. China is already on the calendar for 2010 - my mother-in-law turns 80 and we're going to do a vacation with her (Beijing, Shanghai, and Tsing Tao is the tentative itinerary).

And yes, I also book way ahead - because of kids and also to take advantage of Award miles.

I live in Colorado and I don't ski. LOL! I may this year, but we'll see. My fifth grader gets a free pass this year so I know we'll be up at the mountain more than last year, but as long as they have a lounge I'm fine.

I'm thinking I'll have to put together a family ski weekend. This 5th grade ski pass is a cool deal. It's how Colorado tries to suck in new skiers (and drain mom's bank account in the years to come).

The first time I skied (long ago) I was staying with my friends who live in Aspen, they are of course expert skiers so we couldn't ski together and I had no clue as it how to ski so they dropped me off at ski school on Snowmass Mtn early one morning and by the end of the day I knew a little of the basics, and could actually ski down the mountain by myself, doing something called the blough...well, I did almost ski into a swimming pool of a condo located at the edge of "Fanny Hill" where the classes were held...by the end of that trip I was amazed that I could even make turns and stop when I wanted to instead of coming down on my fanny..LOL

Peggy I'm sure you could learn and would love it. It took me about 3 visits out there and I was able to ski the medium trails...I think they are called the green trails...we even went on a ski junket to the French alps in the mid eighties, but that was much more difficult then Aspen and I spent most of my time apres skiing in front of a beautiful fireplace...:)

But then my back went and I was done with that aspect of my life...blah..

Vacation 2009?

Well, there were going to be two vacations--one to the northeast, the other to Universal Studios in Florida to visit the Harry Potter attraction.

But.

After much discussion, soul-searching, and all-around head banging (of the angst variety, not the Metallica) we've decided that the first vacation will actually be a MOVE. Bye-bye "intermountain west," farewell Rocky Mountains, we're heading east.

That move, while an experience-and-a-half, will likely preclude the second vacation to Universal Studios.

So vacation next year will likely be a series of short, cheap camping trips with our son and my sister's kids. Perhaps a jaunt down to DC or to Maine.

I'm not bitter, though. I'm viewing this move as an extended vacation, complete with pets.

All the best with the move, wish you great new experiences, great new friends... it'll be good...

I've moved so many times, not really regretting any of my moves! The East coast is great... I think you'll find a lot to do.

Take care,

Regina

I remember the two-day drive from California to Colorado with our cats. I'm not so sure they viewed it as a vacation. LOL! We would have loved to take our time and seen more sites along the way, but lovely Wendover, Nevada/Utah (Bendover) was about the only stop on our way. Now we've added a dog to the mix, but fortunately he enjoys the car.

Best of luck. I dreaded moving, since it was first family move but it was worth it in the end.

RE: Vacation 2009?

It's my beloved's 40th birthday early January, so I have a surprise trip to Barcelona lined up, first week of Jan.

It seems a good way to start another year of exciting travel plans :o)

Our highlight will be Madagascar in May - and it will be a real bonus if we can catch Regina for an Africa mini meet and greet! I guess that would be another epinions first!

I've written to our travel agent... we'd like to meet up with you and Mel at the end of your trip (and make it our beginning), and we'll do some eco-touring, and then finish off at one of those gorgeous little islands. We'll see how things develop. Looking forward to it!
