One more big one..

Well, we've just finalized our last vacation of 2008...or should I say our first vacation of 2009? We had planned to fly to San Juan and do a Southern Caribbean cruise for New Year's since we loved our last one, but air fare was TOTALLY prohibitive.

So, we rerouted, and we're doing a 7 day Mexican Riviera cruise on the Carnival Pride flanked on the front end by three days at Disneyland. It's not quite as exotic, but we had some Southwest credits to apply and we will be going during WHALE SEASON!!! At least one whale watching trip is in my future.

Hooray! Hope you have a terrific time!

Speaking of whales, we're off to Cape Town, South Africa on July 25th, and it's whale season, so we're hoping to see some beauties around!

Still sounds fun! I'll never forget our whale watching trip off Maui we did in February one year. It was a thrill!

Ooh Whales - I'm very envious of you both! We have been to West Scotland a few times over the years to try to spot the basking sharks, but no joy yet. Best of luck!

Well, I have a (rare lol) weekend at home, but we are expecting Gill and Tony to stay for a few days. I think Haworth (home of the Bronte family), which is just up the road will be on the agenda.

RE: One more big one..

On a California trip in 2005, we took a boat from Oxnard to Channel Islands National Park. During the boat ride, a pod of dolphins found us and rode the bow wave for a mile or two -- that was really a thrill. It was tough to get a clear picture of the dolphins, as everything was moving so quickly. However, here is one shot we got.

We went to Anacapa Island in Channel Islands National Park and it was just beautiful. Here is one of hundreds of pictures we took: Anacapa Island.

I've done a whale cruise off the coast of Massachussetts but generally, boats and me on the open sea don't mix well.

I know, the first time I went off the coast of Northern California we didn't see a darn thing. Fortunately my husband's employer paid for the excursion.

Enjoy your weekend with G&T! Our family is going camping up at Rocky Mountain National Park the following weekend and unlike Julie, we're hoping NOT to see any bears as we'll be in a tent!

Our neighbors went out on the company boat this morning and they said they spotted a manta ray, a whale (didn't say what kind), and a hammerhead shark (yikes!)... when we get back from our holiday, we're booking the boat to go out right here, in Luanda!

Hope you had a good weekend with Gill and Tony!

We've had a few great whalewatching experiences and a few disappointing ones too...best was near Quebec where pods of Belugas came right up to our boat...:)

Regina, be careful of those hammerheads...LOL

Wow! That's pretty cool! Lucky you... that was your luck, I mean, how many humans can claim to have been sprayed in the face by a whale?

Take care,

Regina

Hollywood or Bust!

Well....it's getting close...I head to Hollywood, CA on Sunday. I will have limited internet access while I'm there (in other words, I may be too busy to r/r/c).

Dusseldorf Germany

Whee getting ready for our flying trip to Dusseldorf in Germany next weekend. I'm excited for a few reasons:

I'm meeting up with Gillandtony and Reginafug (Regina is staying with Gill at the moment).

My dad was posted to Dusseldorf while he was in the army in 1947-49, so he has assigned me to check out a few places that he used to frequent and see if they are still there. It will be a bit of a family history tour :o)

Also got a November trip to Athens (Greece not Georgia) lined up!

Yay for trips! I'm looking forward to our mini M&G, and of course, sightseeing the area, as it's been three years since I was there.

November, is South Africa again, discovering more of the Western Cape, which we cannot get enough of!

Done for the year, I think

We just did a mini weekend getaway to Colorado Springs, but we really packed in a lot of stuff in 2 days, so I'll have plenty of material to keep me busy. In fact, I still have reviews I need to do on Costa Rica.

We decided not to do Mexico this fall or winter. With the shakiness of the economy we're sticking closer to home. But I'm starting to plan for our Wyoming road trip next summer. Looking forward to that!

Have a great time in Wyoming. I love that state!

Sigh...My brother is in Las Vegas. My mom and sister are in San Diego for 3 days then rented a convertible to do a week long cruise up the coast to San Francisco. I'm at home with a summer cold. Achoooooooooo
