Vacations 2008!!!

I heard some murmurings of great trips planned for next year on the 2007 thread, so I figured it was time to start this one!

We've got Vegas planned for my sis's 21st birthday in May. Hopefully we'll be heading to Washington and Oregon sometime in late summer or fall.

Anyone else have plans on the horizon for 2008?

Michelle

For the first time we don't have definite plans made, BUT, with a pending move to Africa at the end of this year, I guess Africa is on the menu, as well as Portugal. My parents and I talked about meeting up in Portugal, since it's a viable "change planes" point when traveling to Africa. So, to be announced!

Lucky you!!! I can't make it any further abroad for the next couple of years than Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean, I'm afraid, since my vacations will all pretty much be limited to a week and I can't justify a longer plane flight for that length of time.

RE: Vacations 2008!!!

Well, we've tentatively got Costa Rica down on the calendar for June. My husband hates to commit this early but since we're using frequent flier miles, I don't want to wait too long.

I once had to book a vacation with frequent flier miles to Hawaii 9 months out so it's not unheard of.

Updated: Gone from tentative to definite. Booked the flights. So, after 25 years, I'm going back. Hopefully I won't run into any old boyfriends.

RE: Vacations 2008!!!

In June my mother and I will be doing a 9 day road trip through South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana. We plan on visiting all the tourist stops along the way. Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, The Badlands, etc. We will stay in Yellowstone National Park for two of those days. I'm still on the hunt to get a photo of a bear in the wild.

Sept. or Oct. I will be going on a cruise (yet to be determined). I'll be going solo as my usual travel partners (mom & sis) will be in San Diego. Yes, Michelle, I'm still trying to get my cruise planned. :)

Sometime in 2008 I will be doing a 3 day trip to Las Vegas...probably in January as I'm asking for a plane ticket for Christmas. ;)

RE: Vacations 2008!!!

we were invited to a wedding in Costa Rica mid-January but another wedding is taking place here in Miami, well acually Coral Springs, just the week before for my sisters son who just happens to be my favorite nephew...so I don't know if we can swing it...The Costa Rican wedding is in San Jose and I hardly know the bride who invited us out of courtesy for her father who is my husbands half brother...Hubby has so many relatives down there so you would think I would be going more often...The last time I was there was over 9 years ago and I would love to go back..

Peggy, it's really a beautiful country with so much to do you will love it..

Funny story, the first lady of Costa Rica was in my husbands restaurant last weekend...Of course he told her all his childhood stories and that he is a Tico...she was very sweet to him he told me...

Oh but I do think we will be going on another short cruise in the Spring, we enjoyed our last one so much and we are talking about a weekend in New York but so far that's just talk

I actually was there as a high school student and then I went back 3 years later to vist when I was in college. I've kept in touch with a lot of my (female)friends and host family. But it's been so developed since I was there that I'm sure it'll be quite a different experience. My kids are looking forward to it since they've seen all my photo albums.

And you do deserve a nice relaxing cruise after your hellish surgery experience!

RE: Vacations 2008!!!

Sounds like you all have some great trips planned.

Believe it or not, we don't have anything big planned for next year so far.

However, we are planning to go somewhere cold in January (a friend wants to experience extreme cold weather). Given we are used to mild UK winters, it won't be too hard to find somewhere fairly cold for us (somewhere like Poland probably).

A friend is moving to Cyprus next week, so we are also invited there at some point (I wish she had moved somewhere more exciting).

RE: Vacations 2008!!!

lol - I guess I'll do a swop... I'll go to Wyoming, and Julie can do the trip to Cyprus!

Yes, I appreciate your comment - I'm a spoilt and very lucky bunny to think that a flight only expenses trip to Cyprus isn't a good opportunity. I was just hoping to use the vacation time on Egypt...

RE: Vacations 2008!!!

Well, I am finally making good use of my Hilton employee discount. When my kids are off in April, I am taking the younger two to Williamsburg and Washington DC.

We are staying at the Homewood Suites in Williamsburg for about $90 less per night than the going rate and an Embassy Suites in Downtown DC for almost $200 less per night.

Yup, these are the times when this profession *does* seem to pay. It's just a shame that others have to work that week.

I am also hoping to get the Hilton in Lake Placid sometime this winter so the kids can go skiing at Whiteface.

Even your "little" weekend jaunts around Europe sound big to us, Chris!

Want cold? Try Colorado. Damn, I didn't realize what I was signing up for. Well, I did, but it sure changes quickly around here. I had the gas fireplace on today and I've already dug out the sweaters, something I didn't do until at least December back in California.

However, it could be warm and sunny tomorrow. That's the way it is around here.

RE: Vacations 2008!!!

A new trip for 2008. :)

Bev and Julie (of the Bev & Julie Adventure Series here on Epinions) are going to do a half night at the Waverly Hills Sanitorium in Louisville, Kentucky. The most haunted place in the United States. It was featured on the SciFi channel's Ghost Hunters Live on Halloween special.

I plan on adding a new wardrobe for the event... mainly consisting of Depends. ;)

Hmmm. I've been thinking of moving to CO because it's mild compared to Minnesota!
I have no vacation time right now, but Las Vegas after the holidays is sounding good. -Dave

Well, you have to remember anything is cold for someone who's lived in California for the last 15 years. :) My kids don't think it's bad--they still are wearing shorts to school in November.

I just figured out that my kids get all of Thanksgiving week off. Next year I'm going to plan for sure to go some place warm during that week. My youngest has been bugging me about Disneyworld so perhaps Florida.

RE: Vacations 2008!!!

Yey, my favourite budget airline easyJet had a sale, so I've booked our long weekend in Krakow (Poland) in January. Hopefully, it will be cold enough to satisfy our friends lol

I'm also delighted at long last to be able to really join in the conversation about 2008 trips!

I'm looking forward to the trip as it's about 10 years since we have been to Krakow, and I'm interested to see how it has changed (I think it's been considerably tidied up since we went).

Ah, dumb me, John Paul II's home! It just came to me... of course I know about Krakow (ugh, am I right?).

Have a great time!
