RE: Before you post any SPAM
Quote: pvreditor I hear 'ya but the problem is that spammers don't think of their messages as spam.
A long-time Eps member that I barely know sent hundreds of people (including me) an e-mail last year that said something like, "Just in time for the holidays, this makes a great gift." It then had the link to an Epinions review -- his Epinions review. It was not even a good Epinions review. I gave it the H rating it deserved and left a comment saying that I didn't want him to send me any more spam. He hotly contested that it was spam but what else would you call such a note?
What was he trying to promote with "Just in time for the holidays, this makes a great gift"? You can't tell, of course. It was a computer printer, one that is probably already obsolete.
Spammers!

Bumping this up for the holiday season and hoping that we won't have that to deal with this year.
Sometimes members abuse this network without realizing it. In all honesty, that's the only explanation I can come up with for any seasoned member to self-promote to those who do not subscribe to his/her reviews.
I think it would be great if we could agree to let our reviews stand on their own merits and let the traffic flow without our intervention. E-mail is definitely considered off-site activity and we need to consider whether we would want to receive unsolicited e-mail promotions before we send them out to others.
Thanks for posting this, Bob and Lorace -- good topic.
