Getting around these boards

After much trial and error, I have to admit that these boards are slightly confusing to the uninitiated (and sometimes to the initiated.)

I've found a few tips that have helped me, which I'll pass along, and I hope that someone else will post things they've discovered.

The best way for me is this:

1. I start with VIEW ALL. Remember, there's a PAGE 2..! This will show you the FORUMS. You may have to click on VIEW ALL, again, as we have 26 Forums in H&G.

2. Then I look down the right/hand column at the dates showing the topics. This helps me determine if I've read all the latest entries, or not.

3. Notice how many Topics there are under the FORUM heading. (column 1) If there's more than 1, then you can click on the Forum title (on the left) to discover the topics.

4. If you want to read a reply to a TOPIC, then click on the Reply title on the right side of the page.

5. If you want to Reply to a post and keep the same title going for that thread, use the smaller REPLY feature that's at the top right of the message itself.

Otherwise, choosing the larger POST A REPLY, above the message, will allow you to put your own heading to the message.

6. The Quote feature - you can choose this if you'd like to use the message you're reading at the beginning of your Reply. It's a good idea at times so others know what you are replying to.

I hope this is helpful. Please be sure to tell us any shortcuts or helps you may have found, or mention any problems you may have with the forum.

RE: Getting around these boards

Bob taught me a new one this morning!

You can sort the last column by LAST REPLY. Then when you want out of that mode, sort it again by LAST REPLY and it will be back to normal.

Never too late to learn a new trick!!!

new to the boards...

I have been on epinions since 99 and I have spent very little time coming to the forums. I just started really looking beyond the basic epinion forum and I have to admit they are confusing. Thanks for the information.

RE: Enjoying the Boards

When I read my original post in this string, I realize just how confused I was at that point of my journey on the boards.

The way I do it now is so much simpler.

First, I click on HOME & GARDEN to get here.

Then, the wonderful tip from PVReditor comes in. I click on LAST REPLY.

This will bring up the titles in the right-hand column of the latest reply in each Forum. That's where I start reading from. Once you click into another forum, you may need to once again use the LAST REPLY. But it's worth it.

Finding your own post?

I am very new, and so do not seem to be able to find my previous post regarding a safety issue with a slow cooker lid. I had another update but did not want to start a new thread when one was existing...

Help?

Thanks!

So now I know I was lost and not IT......can you tell me how you found it?
I even used the search feature to try to seek it out to no avail.

RE: Thanks!

Sorry, There was no magic. I just remembered the post. Glad we found it. I did click on Last Reply at the top because I knew it was recent.

Newbie

Hi I'm new here. I'm happy to find a forum about home and garden, I've been looking all over! I hope I'll have fun with you guys. Oh and btw, yeah this forum is kind of confusing at first especially since I don't go to forums much, but I think I'm getting the hang of it.

Welcome! Feel free to ask if there's anything you can't figure out.

Keep in mind that this is Epinions, where the primary focus is on writing reviews in the main section of the site. The forums here are the kid brother, not the main event. You can also ask questions about reviewing products here.

Anyway, good luck on the site... we're happy you're here.
