Sony LCD TV

I purchased a Sony Wega LCD TV 14 months ago. I was extremely please with the picture and sound quality. At the 14 month time period I experienced pink spots on my screen which was diagnosed by a Sony repair man as dust in the optical block. The problem is this is not covered under any warranty since it is "environmental" not a problem with any part. having researched this I have found while this is not a wide spread problem with Sony LCD's it is not entirely unknown. So beware when considering a Sony LCD TV.

RE: Sony LCD TV

canned air problem solved, or electrostat in your a/c and a an air cleaner in the tv room. Sony just rolled out their no payments till 2009 thing, so I am now seriously looking at the 60xbr2, BUT one of the things i will be doing is getting an air cleaner for the room it will be in. This is somewhat toungue in cheek, aiustin/cedar park is VERY dusty

PINK SPOTS ON SONY WEGA

SAME HERE....14 months to the date....MY SONY has clusters of PINK SPOTS TOO. Mostly in the center of my screen and more concentrated towards the upper center of the screen......Called SONY...they state, they have "NO RECORD" of this problem.

42 inch Sony WEGA....... Model KDF-42WE655........ purchased Aug 06 went on vacation, set up upon return in Sept 06.

Noticed PINK SPOTS 2 weeks ago when what ever I was watching had a very light background. Other than that I never noticed the spots.

RE: Sony LCD TV

I have a Sony Wega 42 inches LCD as well. First started noticing the pink spots about at the 18 month mark. Thought it was finger prints at first, but soon realized it wasn't. I am stationed in Germany now, so adds another layer to my problem. I emailed Sony and chatted on line with a rep, of course they could not help, and stated that they had no record of the problem with other customers.

I am trying to decide if it is worth a repairman even coming to my home, again problem compounded by language barrier. Did you find that your "environmental" problem went away after the repairman visited, or was he not able to fix the optical block. Anyone else know of any remedies to this problem? Thanks, Scott

RE: Sony LCD TV

the canned air thing was mre a fix if the problem were environmental, ie, dust, or other airborne contaminants that might have made their way in far enough to affect the picture in some way. What is being described here and in a few other threads are failed units, unfortunately, two very diffeent things. I hope you have warranty left.

Pink clouds on the KDF-50WE655

I came back from a deployment to the desert only to find my $ony suffering this, "pink cloud", problem. I bought a extended warranty luckily. The repair man called me and asked what the problem was. I described the problem to him and he diagnosed it down to dust in the optical block without even comming to see it!!! He said it's a common problem with the $onys. He will submit the paper work so he could order the optical block. The part would have cost me $900.00 plus labor!!! I'd like to know about this canned air fix also. I'm hoping the company denies the claim and gives me a credit toward another set.

RE: See this Sony link (it will save you about $1300)

this link is of NO value.

http://esupport.sony.com/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=127

PINK SPOTS ON OPTICAL BLOCK ARE NOT COVERED....this link covers yet a differant problem that SONY has finaly acknowledged.

ODD though that SONY continues to CLAIM NO other SONY owners have REPORTD THIS PROBLEM

FURHTERMORE........I live in a 3000sq ft luxury home....me and my daughter. Not and unusual amount of dust at all....what is stranger even yet...WHY DO OTHER BRANDS LIVE IN SPORTS BARS and not have this problem when the many patrons smoke?

SONY JUST DROPPED THE BALL....THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT ....if not other brands would be having such complaints as well....expecially those in dusty areas.

RE: Sony LCD TV

same here....WAS a devoted SONY customer

great that they paid 1/2 but a used set is valued at approx 500 w/o the PINK SPOTS..........that is even IF you can find one w/o pink spots

Unfortinuately US customers who were burned by this SONY DEFECT...pay as much for a repair or more than a used set is worth. Plus by the 12-14 month....PINK SPOTS WILL ONLY APPEAR AGAIN

And those room air cleaners are a good idea but costly as well for the non filter type...PLUS ....since when is a room air cleaner should be a mandatory partner of a television?

SHAME ON SONY.....THEY DID US WRONG...REAL WRONG :(

RE: PINK SPOTS ON SONY WEGA

Same EXACT thing has happened with our Sony WEGA 52" TV!!!! My wife thought I had done something to it to cause it. So, is it possible to use my compressor/blowgun and blow the dust out? Thanks, Carl

Sony 64 inch lcd t.v (PINK SPOTS)

This is not a reply but a question. I have got a 64 inch sony lcd t.v. and I have got several pink spots on the picture. I have read some of the blogs and my husband took the back off and we tried cleaning it with the canned air. They are still there. We also tried adjusting the red in the picture. No better. Does anyone know exactly what you have to clean and where it is located in order to make this better? I live in San Antonio, maybe someone can recommend a place that I could take it to to get it done. Please help. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

RE: DOTS ON SONY WEGA

A friend just came into a used Sony Wega and was told by a diff. friend (tv techy, yet not with Sony) that for about $400. he could replace the color projector unit inside of the TV, and that should take care of his issue of seeing "blue & purple twinkling stars".

The "blank" active screen currently looks like the backdrop of that one older show "An Evening at the Improv" - only w/ way smaller dots. The effect indeed provided a particularly "fun" ambiance when I showed pictures of a full moon (on video 2) from my Canon S3) ;o)

Alas, not fun for anyone who inevitably dumps their expensive set since Sony peops can't seem to fix or acklowledge that their product HAS a legitamate problem.

Will let you know how new color projector unit fairs as he's determined to replace it.
