HDTV Setup

Can anyone help me set up the wiring for the following: cable wiring, cable box, LG receiver, antennae, receiver, hd-ready tv? I thought I knew what I was getting when I purchased the LG receiver and antennae, but I've been told otherwise. I was under the impression that the wiring was as such: cable wiring into the cable box, cable box into the LG receiver, receiver into the tv, and the receiver into the tv. I was told that the LG receiver is only going to broadcast my local channels (with the antennae)and that I would need to get a hdtv cable box from my cable company to broadcast any other channels in hd. PLEASE HELP!

COMCAST IS SCUM!

"Can anyone help me set up the wiring for the following: cable wiring, cable box, LG receiver, antennae, receiver, hd-ready tv?"

THIS IS GONNA HURT!

First here's the basic setup no brainer setup.

Cable from wall to LG receiver (input marked Cable) LG receiver, Antenna to LG receiver (input marked VHF/UHF) now LG receiver out to hd-ready tv.

*This will give you all the digital and HDTV channels and the local HDTV channels available but no movies and no fancy Comcast stuff.*

Now the other choice...

Cable from wall to Y-splitter from Radio Shack to LG receiver (input marked Cable) and the other side of Y-Splitter to cable box then to LG receiver (input marked VHF/UHF) ----- LG receiver out to hd-ready tv

*No local HDTV channels by using the Antenna but here you get HDTV channels from Comcast for nothing and yoiu get their movie channels without the extra $5.00 for the HDTV reciever.*

It's all really quite NASTY since Comcast is actually blocking HDTV through the cable box and ripping you off.

HDTV wiring

Without knowing the connectors on the back of your LG receiver and your HD monitor, it's a little hard to give you advice. Generally speaking, off-the-air HD receivers (which is what I assume the LG is) have either component video outputs or a DVI output. These connect to either the component or DVI input of your HD monitor.

If your monitor has component inputs/outputs, there will be connectors labeled Cr/Cb/Y, with similar connectors on the back of the LG receiver. This is how I have my HD system hooked up at home. Each of these connections needs its own video-grade cable. It sounds like a pain but the picture quality is beautiful.

Obviously, if your receiver and monitor have only a DVI input/output, use that. Assuming that your HD monitor does not have a built-in digital off-the-air tuner, the only way to get HD in your monitor is through either its component or DVI input.
