LST-3510A
I too bought this as an open box for 189 at best buy, no cables/remote. I am looking for a universal remote to work with my XBOX 360, this machine, AV receiver and TV. I know logitech makes one that works with just about anything but part of the programing requires the remote!
I have not been able to upconvert at all, is that only an option using the DVI?
As a Tuner the machine is superb, as a DVD player it has some issues (it freaks out sometimes when a dvd goes totally black) All in all, given the fact that a tuner alone costs at least 200 I am satisfied with the machine but I would like to get a remote for it.
As far as antennas go, I got a really good one from Radio Shack that works well but YOU DO NOT NEED A SPECIAL ANTENNA TO PICK UP HDTV. I didn't know this until I tried an old antenna just for kicks and it works! It just needs to be adjusted periodically which is annoying. I also tried a TERK antenna supposedly made for HDTV but it didn't work any better than my old antenna. |

A little trick.....
I have been using this machine for a few months with a Syntax Olevia as well. I found that the reluctance to "talk" to each other is only during the previews/menu section of the DVD. When I insert a DVD, I normally press one of the channel keys, which switches the display to TV while the DVD continues to read. After a few seconds, I press play again. It normally goes right into the movie. Sometimes I have to do this a couple of times. I don't mind the extra work, if it means I don't have to send it back for a firmware update.
As far as antennae, I'm using the Zenith model from Amazon.com. It works great for under $20. I have also read that a regular rabbit ear antenna may also work fine... (it can be hidden from view, of course!).
Hope this helps.
p.s. I also found the firmware download and instructions for the do it yourself update, but I'm afraid to try it, since it will surely void the warranty and I don't know if anyone has been able to successfully update. Anyone???? |

RE: A little trick.....
I'd be interested in hearing where you found the do-it-yourself firmware download?
I just bought my LG/HTDV/DVD player this week and was concerned with all the issues I've read.. BUT, I have to say.. it works beautifully! I've connected it to a 42"SonyXBR Plasma and while I had heard Sony would not recognize it.. no problems. At first I didn't think either signal HDTV/DVD would get feed thru the DVI input and only had luck with the Component inputs.. BUT, I played around a bit and low and behold.. it did transmit thru DVI input. I don't think the machine is bad, it's just "touchy" and the instructions aren't as clear as they could be.. I can play the Disney Disc people say are problematic and I can output any of the connections to the display at ALL resolutions that I select. As everyone says, the HDTV reception of this tuner is incredible.. Almost picks up twice the amount of HD broadcasts as my other Sony LCD with built in tuner. This machine is GREAT for those who only had a HDTV Ready display. Great solution to feeding dvd and hd signal so you can finally enjoy HD on that expensive TV. LOVE IT |

RE: A little trick.....
Where did you find the firmware? LG says they refuse to send me the latest firmware update for the LST-3510A. TIA! |

HDTV Tuner trouble
I have a Sylvania ATSC set top box HDTV tuner. I receive a great HD picture of the several stations I want...for about 10 seconds. Then it flashes "No Signal" and then regains the signal and then loses it and then regains it. It could be my antenne, of course, but it seems to me that it's probably the tuner because the signal clearly is acquired...it just won't seem to lock on.
I'm in a metropolitan area where the HDTV signals should be pretty strong, but I'm trying to go without cable if I can at all avoid it.
I'm not a videophile (obviously). Do you have any advice for me?
Thanks
