What not to wear

It sounds really superficial, but what you wear to an interview is extremely important. My boss at my first ever real job (at a movie theater when I was in high school) told me that he hired me because I was wearing a skirt, so it looked like I card. I am currently a receptionist, so I see all the candidates come in. The ones with the nicest suits get the job nine times out of ten.

Dress for success

Professional projection is important, even when interiviewing for a casual work environment. I think looking polished and well groomed is very important. Applicants can go overboard with too much makeup or cologne, or appear too casual.

Do your homework on the company you interview with; for example, if it is a manuafacturing environment with a casual dress code, then a three piece suit is probably overkill. If it is a corporate environment, then that would most likely be appropriate.

You better polish your flip-flops, too.
