Who Killed The Electric Car?
So, why is GM begging Congress for money?
by jican
Pros: A must-see film.
Cons: The painful truth is exposed.
The Saturn Car Company used to be a privately owned company.  When they became profitable, they were bought over by GM.  This independent film tells the story of a pilot program to advance the auto industry to produce zero emissions, conserve gas and oil with electric technology.    This program was was stifled by American auto giants and the oil companies, for greed.

Only a chosen few were allowed to lease this car, the (Saturn) EV1.  Those that leased it, did not want to give it up.  This award winning film tells the unmistakable truth of the "big boys" cover-up.

This is a very compelling film.  My feeling is that Congress must have viewed this film before the hearings this week.  I feel this is a film to be seen by all Americans.

Thank you for reading my review.

Debby Maugans Nakos - Small-Batch Baking: When Just Enough for 1 or 2. . . Is Just Enough!
Good enough for a family of 2
by RMoreno
Pros: good for a small family that doesn't want to get fat on baked goods!
Cons: her make-shift pans are not practical for longterm use
This book is something I bought when my husband insisted I was trying to fatten him up every time I baked.  I'm sorry...you can't make ONE cookie!

Well, now I can with this cook book.  The author teaches how to make cookies, breads, muffins, etc, from scratch on a smaller scale.  I'll be making his birthday cake using this book.

She also tells you how to make molds out of cans.  I'm not a fan of that.  I'd rather buy small loaf pans and cake molds from one of the local stores.  I wouldn't want to re-use cans too much because I think they would rust and/or lose their coating to make things stick to them.

The recipes I've tried have come out well.  I did double one of her recipes for bread.  That's something you just don't need a small batch of.

The Promise by Il Divo
Very Disappointed
by riladon
Pros: - Beauitful Voices
- Handsome Faces
Cons: Didn't bring out the best of the IL Divo's Voices.
This CD is the worst CD ever for IL Divo. I have most of their CDs from the beginning. They are handsome and the voices are so great.

However, the songs chosen for this CD is sooo wrong. They let me feel I am dying or what. It is sooo slow and It can't bring out the voices of the IL Divo members. They sounds like so sleepy and dying. If you are thinking of buying this CD, try to listen online first and decide if you really want it!

Jon Blake and David Roberts - Stinky Finger's House of Fun
Funny, original, warm-hearted read
by penderyn2000New Member
Pros: Funny, original, imaginative, warm-hearted.
Cons: Could have been longer I suppose!
A really great story with three characters kids are sure to love (except the knowall Bryan Brain maybe!).  They live in a house full of the most fabtastic rooms (such as the Attic of Horrors) and have a whole load of madcap adventures trying to escape from a siege by an army of talking pigs!  Very funny, but the relationship between Icky and Stinky is also quite poignant.

Christopher Paolini - Brisingr
Third book is a charm!
by trc123
Pros: Easy read. Increasingly engaging storyline. Hundreds of pages to get lost in :-)
Cons: Waiting impatiently for the final book.
Another fantastic fanasty by Mr. Paolini! Who doesn't love an author that can pull you into their heart and mind to give the reader such a vivid representation of a world that only exists only in their imagination? This was one of those novels where words blurred behind the minds eye and a tug was felt when I was snapped back to reality.  As always a little bit of...I will say disappointment...stirred everytime I realized the amount of pages yet to be read was growing smaller and smaller. I hate it when a such a good book must come to and end.
The only faulty thing I can say about this book is that I did not understand the authors reasons for flip flopping back and forth between Eragon's and Roran's stories...I imagine is was to impart some the trials of the Varden but that could have been done without straying so much from the main charactor. Perhaps there will be redemptions for this in the next novel? Which I am very much looking forward to!

Christopher Mackay - Ancient Rome: A Military And Political History
Battle, Battle and More Battle
by alisongreeneNew Member
Pros: Insightful
Thoroughly researched
Cons: Not a whole lot on the Late Empire
Christopher Mackay's title A Military and Political History really does sum up what this book is about. Battle and politics as it relates to battle. The book doesn't spend time on what life was like for the average Roman, what the people ate, the women wore, or the children did. In fact, the book really doesn't deal with women at all. It is a military book, through and through, just as the title suggests. For readers looking for insight into battlefield operations, this is certainly an enlightening book. If you're looking for insight into military strategy, however, you may come away disappointed. The author spends a significant amount of time discussing the intentions of particular Emperors, which I found very interesting, and gives considerable coverage to the early leaders. The Late Empire, however, gets scant attention in comparison. For Roman military buffs, this will be a book they'll want to pick up. But the casual reader looking for a glimpse into military men's lives may want to try something less dense.

Space Chimps
Space Chimps: Where did NASA go?
by josey_c2002
Pros: Everything! Animation, voices, plot. Even the ending song by BNL!
Cons: the evil people
This is an awesome family movie about the chimpanzees trained at NASA. When a space probe goes missing into a wormhole, NASA scientists push to have their trained chimps do the job of going after the probe, finding it and returning to earth. What they needed was a publicity stunt to get the support. Enter Ham III, the grandson of the first chimpanzee astronaut, now being shot out of cannons nightly in a circus with the help of his oldest family friend, Houston.

This story tells us about what would happen if a piece of Earth equipment fell into the hands of angry aliens who used it for evil purposes. Our heroic trio of chimps, and a cute alien named Gigi Watt, find ways to survive on the alien planet, fall in love, make friends with aliens, miss their flight home, save a planet and use the teamwork of an entire planet to get them all home safely, to the great surprise of NASA, who were in the middle of being disbanded for failure.

I recommend this movie for anyone who likes a few good laughs, monkeys, angry aliens, and Space.

Christopher Ciccone - Life with My Sister Madonna
Great Biography by her brother
by theeduc8torNew Member
Pros: Easy to read, smart and entertaining.
Cons: A little cathartic in some parts, but not a total downer.
Life with My Sister Madonna is a very well-written and entertaining biography of one of our greatest pop stars.  Christopher does a really great job of not excessively whining about his life lived alongside his sister like most biographies out there.  As I read this book, I was entertained by current events with his sister's separation with Guy Ritchie.  This is a great read, even if you don't like Madonna.

Erica Verrillo - Elissa's Quest
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!
by elissawannabeNew Member
Pros: Everything. It was perfect!
Cons: None at all.
I adored this book! Cover to cover it was the best fantasy I have ever read. The main character, Elissa, is someone I would like to model myself after. She's spunky, speaks her mind, and has a magical gift. When she gets into a difficult spot, she's brave and courageous. (Most fantasy heroines just wimp out.) The other characters are great, too. Her donkey, Gertrude is a grumpy old thing, but she has a good heart. And Gertrude's "true love," Ralph the camel, is a riot. The  plot moves right along. Elissa gets abducted, lost in a forest, traded for troops, promised in marriage to the hideous Khan, rescued, nearly sold as a slave, escapes into the desert where she almost dies of thirst, and last, faces down the Khan and all his troops in a massive showdown at the oasis. Wow!! I cannot wait to read the second book in the trilogy!!

First Act MSG36 36" Acoustic Guitar
First Act Junk
by sbjguitarsNew Member
Pros: None
Cons: Falls apart

not worth fixing

cheap
First Act has a High end divison and then the el chepo crap.  Anything marked as a first act is a toy and not a musical instrument.  You sould only purchase this mess if you want to use it as a baseball bat.

Steven Saylor - Roman Blood
Historical Mystery With Cicero
by alisongreeneNew Member
Pros: well-researched
great details about ancient Roman life
interesting mystery
Cons: none
The book begins in 80 BC (sorry, I refuse to use BCE, since "common era" still refers to Christ, otherwise we'd be using different dates entirely) with the writer/orator Cicero defending a man accused of murder. This isn't just any murder, but parricide, which was punishable in ancient Rome by being tied up in a sack with three feral animals and thrown into a body of water (the Tiber). Because Cicero can't argue a case AND root out the facts, he hires a "finder" named Gordianus to determine the truth of what occured. As Gordianus goes about trying to unravel the mystery - who did it, and why - life becomes increasingly dangerous for him.

I was pleased to see that the author relied heavily on Cicero's own writings, and was true to the historical time period. This is an author I will definitely read again.

Duke Lion Fights The Terror by Big Dumb Face
Duke Lion Fights the Terror is great!
by needles_kaneNew Member
Pros: It's a hilarious romp through the hyperactive mind of Wes Borland
Cons: the last song shoulda been shorter with all the extra stuff on another track
This album is genius in it's insanity! the lyrics are simple but complex at the same time, just how the music makes it that way. the songs are a riot! they're so bloody hilarious! come on a song about a floating head on fire that makes people disintegrate? what's not to love?
