Textbookx.com is a subsidiary of Akademos.com dedicated to buying and selling textbooks. I've been out of graduate school for over five years and have changed careers. I found Textbookx when I was looking for a place to sell some of the many Sociology textbooks overflowing my bookcases.
Website
Buyer's Perspective
Textbookx.com is well organized. Search by keyword and ISBN is available from the home page. You can also browse by subject and view the featured titles and best sellers. Book listings give all of the pertinent information: ISBN, Publication Date, Edition, Binding, Media, Dimensions, Weight, and Retail Price. Book exchange listings have Seller Info, Condition, Seller Comments, and Price. By clicking on the seller name you see the Seller Profile, including Username, Overall Seller Rating, Items Sold and Feedback. Standard shipping is free on orders over $100 or First Class shipping is $.99 per item on orders over $150. Order tracking is available for orders placed in the last 6 months.
Selling
Selling books on the Textbookx Book Exchange is easy. Click on the Sell Books link and enter the ISBN of your book. Next, verify the book. Not all books are available. If there is a problem with the book information, you can report it here. Third, select the interior, exterior and overall condition of the book, enter any comments, the quantity you have available and the dates your book should be available for sale. Fourth, set the price. It is helpful to find out how much the book is selling for on other websites, like Half.com, Amazon.com and ebay.com, before deciding your price. This page also tells you how much the Textbookx commission will be (15% of the sale price). When you sell your book, you will receive the sale price minus the commission plus a shipping allowance depending on the type of book and shipping. Finally, confirm, edit or cancel the listing.
When someone buys the book, you are sent an email asking your to confirm the sale and print the mail tag for the package. It's important that you use Textbookx's mail tag so that they know when the book has been received. Three days after the buyer has received the book, you get paid by store credit, credit card or direct deposit. If you choose to be paid by store credit, you will receive 5% more. You must have a credit card on file in your account to be paid.
The book that I sold through Textbookx was sold on 6/2, confirmed on 6/4, and mailed by USPS Media Mail on 6/6. I was paid on 6/21 by direct deposit. It can take several days for a payment to post through direct deposit or to a credit card account. The payment posted to my account on 7/1.
Bottom Line
Posting books for sale and getting paid is easier at Textbookx.com than any other website I have used, including auction sites, like ebay.com. The primary disadvantage of this site is that it does not get as much traffic as better known websites like ebay.com, so your listing is less likely to be seen. None the less, I highly recommend Textbookx.com for their ease of use and professionalism.
