I have made a few transactions with Amazon.com; some of them were pleasant, others left me fuming. I bought 2 books (on separate occasions) which were shipped fasted than expected and arrived in flawless condition. However, I have had problems with 2 other transactions. I ordered 3 different magazine subscriptions which were published by the same company, only to be credited with three years of Marie Claire. I waited on the help line for 45 minutes before having an operator tell me it's not her problem. This problem was solved by calling the company directly. My real problem with amazon dealt with a chemistry review book for my daughter. The NYS chemistry regents were coming up in about 4 weeks, so I went to amazon and bought a review book for it. At the time, the shipping estimate was 4-6 days. After about 8 days, I went to my account page to see if the book had shipped yet and I found that the shipping estimate was now 17-19 days from the time that I placed my order. Well, I decided to wait it out, but 3 days letter I got a letter from amazon stating that the item was now out of stock and would not be in for another two weeks. Considering that the test was sooner than that, I cancelled my order, called up the company directly, and recieved my book from them in 2 days.
So, I find amazon rather inconsistent; and the discounts aren't anything to write home about, especially considering that the shipping and handling more than cancels them out. The customer service is frustrating, misleading and rude.
If I cannot find an item anywhere else, I might consider going back to amazon, but until then, they can bid me aduei.
