Amazon.com has been extremely convenient and price-reasonable for me. I have ordered books, toys, and music from them, and they always arrive in great condition. The unbelievable thing is how fast your items get to you.. even during Christmas. I think of amazon.com first when there is anything I want to buy.
Amazon.com is a great place to order books for college too. They usually have cheaper prices than any bookstore and even offer used books, which is an even better option. They are very competitive since they allow you to sell your used books also. Selling books back to the college bookstores are a rip-off.
I've usually used the standard shipping option, and my order has arrived earlier than I expected every time. They know whether your item is in stock the moment you're looking at it on-line. They have amazing organization in their company. They've also always had the book I was looking for.
I would recommend amazon.com to anyone, especially educators who read to keep up with changing times. Once you do a search for the topic you are interested in, hundreds of options show up. It allows for a thorough search either for a literature review or exploration.
It's definitely nice to physically go out and shop, but if there's something particular you're looking for or need to search, amazon.com is the place to go. It's just too convenient to resist to have it arrive at your door in a couple days.
