| erinrounds's Full Review: Maytag PAV2300 Top Load Washer |
I am one of those rare freaks, the kind that actually like to do laundry. It might even be my favorite household chore. Now, as much as I love doing my laundry, there comes a time when it becomes apparent to the main laundry-doer (me), that the old standby, basic starter model washing machine just isn't as good as it could be. The old gal hasn't been up to par for some time, but last weekend it started to leak oil/grease everywhere and her loads were officially numbered. After searching a few department and appliance stores I had my heart and my wallet set on the Maytag brand. The only problem (I thought) was going to be the price. Some of the higher end models can run into serious money, and frankly I am too cheap to spend serious money. As luck would have it, we had some friends who heard about our dilemna and just bought a house. So we played Let's Make a Deal and bing-bang-boom we had our new Maytag washer and dryer. Now we got to take the nearly new appliances home and road test them. How did they fare at my house?
Well as luck? should have it, both of my little darlings have been down with the stomach flu, and anybody who has ever experienced that phenomena with small children knows the direct result of the flu is massive amounts of laundry. So my shiny, new Maytag Performa got one heck of an initiation.
-----
Features-
Capacity-
This model holds oversized loads with ease. In fact we were able to wash our king-sized comforter with no problems. It would not have been possible in our old model, not even close. This model also has a leveling feature so that your loads will stay balanced and not cause the banging and thumping that some models do in the spin cycle.
Water Levels-
This is one handy feature, and coming from a washer with no water level selection, I am being quickly spoiled. The Performa boasts 4 levels to customize washing; super, large, medium and mini. I can't wait to see my next water bill.
Temperature Options-
Again, as with the water options the Performa offers variety. There are also 4 temperature options; Hot/Cold, Warm/Warm, Warm/Cold, Cold/Cold.
You'll soon see, you can truly customize to meet any washing needs.
Cycles-
Not to be redundant, but um well, the Performa has many options for cycle length. Regular, Permanent Press, and Knits and Delicates. The wash times run from a thorough 14 minute cycle to a gentle 2 for your fragile items. Whichever cycle you choose, be amazed at the quietness of this machine.
Dispensers- This model has built in dispensers for both bleach and fabric softener. They flow out in the course of the wash.
The Results-
The best results I have ever seen in a washer. The Performa simply cleans everything. I had no idea a washer would make such a difference in the results you could get in your laundry. The clothes come out nearly dry so drying time is cut way down. Whites are much brighter, and stains are coming out, that stain remover wouldn't take out in items washed in our last machine. Add to that, the fact that this washer can handle the oversized loads my busy family of four constantly cranks out, and I couldn't recommend this more highly.
Purchased new, this machine can be found for under $400.00 and that is unbelievable to me. While it is not the most high tech machine available, it is so well put together for the money. If you are considering this model, look no further for your washing needs!
