Introduction
Amazon.com is the site that revolutionized shopping and introduced the concept of shopping on the web and made it popular. There would be hardly anybody who hasn't heard the name of Amazon or not visited its site once.
Concept
Amazon is another shopping portal. What started pretty small as a small shop catering to demands made on the web has now become an enterprise with Jeff Bezos becoming one of the most well known IT personalities of all time.
Amazon sells every thing right from a music cassette or a CD to any electronic goods, books etc. The idea is to have a shopping mall on the net.
Reasons for Amazon's amazing popularity
1) Great site. Well structured and well laid out.
2) One click shopping is a brilliant idea. The concept of shopping cart is also brilliant and easy to understand.
3) Concept of gift certificates was again a good idea.
4) Rates are pretty reasonable.
5) Shipping and packaging are usually excellent.
Summary
Till date I haven't had much to complain about this site. I feel Amazon is one of the better professional organizations that I had a chance to deal with.
A fact that most people might not know is that Amazon.com was incurring heavy losses till last year. Last year was the first time when Amazon booked profits. This was due to the tremendous commitment of the Amazon management to widen its consumer base, which seems now to have paid rich dividends for Amazon.
As far as I am concerned, this is the site I would like to shop at.
