Pros: Several Restaurants Near By, Friendly Staff, Room was Large
Cons: Room need a remodel about 30 years ago.
The Bottom Line: Spend a little more money and stay at someplace that isn't a time warp to bad interior design of the 60's and 70's.

| jdornoff's Full Review: Travelodge Durango, CO |
Background:
Growing up, Travelodge seemed to rate just above a motel 6. They were economical and gave you the basics for a motel. After nearly disappearing off the face of the earth a few years ago, Travelodge seems to be making a comeback and have moved upscale from their economy roots
My wife and I were planning a trip down to Durango, Colorado for our 10th Anniversary and we ended up booking the Travelodge which is located north of the downtown area. I try not to spend a lot of money on lodging when you usually only want a bed for the night, but try to find a place that is half way decent. Inexpensive and Durango just don't go together as our rate for this room was $75.00 a night.
Hotel Information:
The hotel is well located on Main Street which is US Highway 550 north of the downtown Durango area.
2970 Main Avenue Durango, Colorado 81301 970-247-1741
Free High Speed Internet, Pets Allowed, Truck/Bus Parking, AM/FM Clock Radio, Hairdryer, and Cable TV
The motel has three main buildings in a "U" shape around a grassy area in the center. Our room was actually on the backside of the building at the bottom of the "U". We could hear the river running behind the complex but could not see it from our room but probably could from the room above ours which faced the front side of the building.
The Room:
I walked into the room and thought I had passed through some sort of temporal distortion or something that took me back to the 1960's.
The one thing the room had going for it was that it was fairly large. As we opened the door on the right there was a large table and four chairs, and on the far wall to the right were two queen beds. There was a built-in window style air conditioner stuck in the wall next to the door. To the left sat a two shelf dresser with a 25" television set on top of it.
On the far side of the room were the kitchen area on the left and the bathroom on the right. The wall between the bathroom and the bed area had a very large wall length closet that had no doors on it.
The kitchen area was large but very outdated. It was U shaped with a large counter between the kitchen and the living area. The part of the "U" facing the living area had lots of cabinet space. The middle section of the "U" had the double sink and to the right side the microwave. The far side of the "U" contained more covert space plus a 20" cabin sized stove and an 18" refrigerator.
The bathroom was a little different in arrangement with toilet to the left as you entered the room and the sink to the right and the full sized bathtub straight ahead.
Boy, this room is old and I do mean old!!
All the furnishings and the ugly ceiling tiles appeared to be straight out of the 60's or 70's. The newest items in the room appeared to be the television and microwave since they were built in 1993.
In addtion the counters in the kitchen were very dirty, stained and had scorch marks from years of use and abuse. The bathroom also looked very dated but the size made up for it.
Problems:
There were a couple of problems with the room. First of all it seemed like the heat would not shut off near the beds. Despite having the heat completely turned off you could still feel it near the headboards. In addition the A/C unit was one of the window style units that had been placed in the wall that faced outside. It did not do a very good job of cooling the room but was very noisy.
In addition the hair dryer in the bathroom was falling off the wall and did not work.
Wireless Internet Service:
I used the wireless internet service during our stay in the motel. The signal in our area of the complex was only so-so but I was able to get a signal most of the time. It probably is better in the main part of the motel.
Nearby:
There are several restaurants and fast food places in the immediate area of the motel including Taco Bell, KFC, and Dairy Queen. While there are sidewalks on both sides of the street the area is not that pedestrian friendly.
There is also bus service in front of the hotel that goes directly to downtown but does not operate early enough on weekends to catch the Durango to Silverton trains.
Continental (barely) Breakfast:
The Continental Breakfast is held in the lobby of the motel. My wife and I rarely get time to have big breakfasts together so we took the opportunity to eat out instead of having the breakfast. However, after checking out I looked over the breakfast and was not impressed. They had some Danishes, one type of cereal plus coffee, milk, and Orange Juice and nothing else.
Checking Out:
When I arrived at the desk there was one person in front of me. The front desk person told the person that it was his first day on the job and I started to get worried. However, he was able to check him out quickly and took care of me after a couple of minutes.
Final Thoughts:
The motel staff was very friendly but the room needs basic maintenance in addition to a major remodel job. While the rate was reasonable for the area I would not stay here again.
Thank you to SurgRN911 (DI) for adding it to the database.
